___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Gladys’ obituary : On July 3, 2022, Gladys Anderson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 89 in her home of 51 years in Bellevue, Washington.

Gladys was born April 7, 1933, in Wesleyville, PA, to Herta and Henry Stockhausen. She attended Wesleyville High School and sang in the school and church choirs. During her Junior year, she met her future husband, Norman "Andy" Anderson, who attended Lawrence Park High School. They were both on their school's committee for a joint school dance for the two High Schools. They met there, started dating a month later, fell in love, and began their wonderful love story as they dated for 5 years, then married for another 67 years!

Gladys and Andy married in 1955. With Andy in the Navy, his first assignment was Whidbey Island Airbase where Gladys fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. After the Navy, Andy got a job at Northwest Airlines, they moved around a bit, then settled in the Seattle, WA area. In 1971 they built their dream home in Bellevue, WA, where they lived to this day.

Gladys and Andy were very involved with their church and had many friends at St Andrew's Lutheran Church. Gladys continued her love to sing in the church choir, where she sang solos for many years. Also, a Bridge group was created at Church that ended up being lifelong friends, vacationing many places together and creating incredible friendship bonds.

While Andy traveled for work, Gladys stayed home and took care of raising their 4 children and many dogs! She continued to sing, became the best cook (and enjoyed cooking), loved to sew and embroider, and read, read, read! She also loved camping; once they moved to the PNW there were many family camping trips every year. Once retired Gladys and Andy traveled in their 5th wheel RV for many more adventures around the Western States together, as well as with family and friends.

Before and after Andy retired, they did extensive travel around the world. Gladys took great care to read the history of every place they traveled and made sure they knew all about the places they would visit, even planning all their camping travels closely with Andy.

For 9 years Gladys and Andy had another home in Idaho Springs, CO, to spend time with grandchildren and great grandchildren there. They have many fond memories of holidays spent there, lots of snow and learning to love the game of Mexican Train! Gladys' passion and love was in her family. She always enjoyed getting family together, for holidays, birthdays, summer picnics or any other excuse! She was truly dedicated to her family and wanted to be around them as much as possible.

We have so many wonderful memories of Gladys and she will live in our hearts and minds for the rest of our days. She lived a wonderful and happy life and passed peacefully in her own house as she had always wanted.

Gladys is survived by her husband Norman "Andy," her daughters Laurie and Lianne, her son Kenneth and his wife, Cristy, 8 grandchildren Heather, Sheena, Andrea, Ryan, Erin, Piper, Sarah and Olivia, and 5 great-grandchildren Mason, Mia, Luke, Emily and Owen . She was preceded in death by her Mother, Herta, her Father, Henry, her sister, Hilda and her son, Bradley.

A service will be held at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Bellevue on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 11AM. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in memory of Gladys to The Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind.
