___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our PCN Flight West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Peggy Hancock's obituary...............................................
 http://www.asturner.com/obituary/Peggy-Futral-Hancock/Snellville-GA/1540209
Peggy Futral Hancock, 76, of Stone Mountain, Georgia and Naples, Florida, passed peacefully on August, 29th, 2015, surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.  Peggy was born in Savannah, Georgia on February 24, 1939, and grew up across the street from Forsyth Park. She learned to roller-skate and to ride her sister's bike around the fountain there. She was a graduate of Commercial High School. Peggy met Lt. Murall Hancock, the love of her life, while he was stationed at Hunter Air Force Base as a pilot. They married and, after starting their family while in the U.S. Air Force, settled in Stone Mountain once Murall became a pilot for Delta Airlines. Peggy was a long time member of the Morning Glories Garden Club. She and Murall have been members of the Christian Friendship class at First United Methodist Church of Tucker for more than four decades. As a stay at home mom, Peggy provided wonderful meals, carpool rides, kisses and band-aids on scraped knees, and many packed picnic baskets for family outings. She instilled a love for nature in all of her children by never missing an opportunity to point out a beautiful sunset, fluffy clouds on a summer day, or the moon and stars in the night sky. For all of those things, we will forever be grateful. Peggy is survived by Murall, her devoted husband of 58 years, and their four children, Chris, Chuck (Tamara), Robin, and David (Maria); grandchildren, Courtney (Kris), Amelia (Will), Eilis, Lydia, Katherine, Neil, Emory, Nathan, Eric, Sam, Charlotte, and Sophia; and great grandchild, Jolene. Surviving also are siblings, Sam Futral, Jane Dooley, and John Futral, and numerous nieces and nephews. "Our last kiss shall be as sweet as our first, and my heart full of your love will rest next to yours in God's arms. And we will watch God's starry sky forever - together." ~ Murall Hancock. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Tucker, 5095 LaVista Road, Tucker, Georgia, 30084, on Tuesday, September 1st at 2:00 p.m. in the main sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Dr. Jim Higgins, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The United Methodist Children's Home, 500 S. Columbia Drive, Decatur, 30030, 404-327-5820 in her memory.

Raymond Roy took his last flight on August 17, at the age of 93. He grew up in Lowell and graduated from Lowell High School and Lowell State University. Peg and Ray met in 1945 while riding the bus between Lowell and Boston.

Ray began flying very early in his life. His early flying included giving rides for $2.00 to any civilian who was daring enough to ride with him.

He began his career in the Army Air Force as a flight cadet. He began active service in Army Air Corp, during WWII, teaching Chinese officers basic flight training. At the end of WWII, he joined the Air Force Reserves and was activated again during the Korean Conflict.

After the Korean Conflict, Ray joined Northeast Airlines and eventually, Northeast was acquired by Delta Airlines. Ray retired from Delta as a captain in 1981 and enjoyed a fabulous retirement with Peg, traveling the world and enjoying their family of 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

John Mastronardi

Retired Delta Airlines pilot and golf enthusiast

John Mastronardi (called Jack by everyone who knew him) passed away on June 3 after a valiant and courageous battle with multiple myeloma. He was 73 years old.

He leaves his beloved wife, Jeannie (Lavoie) and their children, Lia Mastronardi of Cape Giardeau, MO, Jena Frederick and her husband, Joey of New Orleans, LA and Nick and his wife, Bobbie Sue, currently of Fayetteville, GA. Jack is the son of Dorothy DePietro and the late Anthony Mastronardi and is also survived by his siblings, his sisters, Merilyn and her husband, Scott Yianacopolus of Lynnfield Jeanne Coffey and Anne Mastronardi, both of Port St. Lucie, Florida and a brother, Ronald of Massachusetts; his grandchildren, Hudson Frederick and Leo and Marcus Mastronardi, a brother-in-law,, Warren Lavoie of Georgia, a sister-in-law, Rita and her husband, David Heller of Florida and many dear cousins (especially George West) and nieces as well as his long time pal and dear friend, Johnny Lanza and many other friends.

Jack graduated Revere High School, Class of 1960 and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute – RPI, Class of 1964 where he received his degree in mechanical engineering. He played baseball and was the captain of the team in his senior year. He served his country during the Vietnam War achieving the rank of Captain in the US Air Force. He later became a Delta Airlines pilot, a job he performed with distinction and from which he retired after 30 years.

He was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his relatives and friends at his gorgeous home on a spectacular golf course in White Water Creek, Fayetteville, GA. He was an ardent student of the game of golf and came to be quite proficient at it. He enjoyed reading and talking about golf, watching it on TV and he especially loved playing endless rounds of golf whenever he had the chance. He was a master of the game and scored a ‘hole in one’ a few years ago.

He is remembered by many people who have known him over the years as a great companion, an intelligent, kind and generous person who was always willing to offer help to all who needed it. Many were the beneficiaries of his advice, his wise counsel and his always helpful suggestions in traversing life’s difficulties.

He was particularly honored by a young South Vietnamese soldier, Pham Quang Khiem, who Jack trained during the war in Vietnam, in an article written for an Air Force publication. Khiem, who was aided by Jack both financially and socially when he had to flee that country, received assistance for himself and his family during a harrowing time. He credits Jack with his later success in the United States where he lives and has prospered as an airline pilot. He gives thanks to Capt. Jack Mastronardi for all the effort he made on his behalf.

Jack, who his cousin, Kevin, called “The Aristotle in the family,,” was a leader and a great “thinker.” Like the Greek, he had his keen mind always working on something, analyzing some issue, doing research on various subjects (like studying the stock market, etc.) and basically continuing to provoke and inspire others with his profound insights. And he was a perfect “devil’s advocate.” It was a delight to speak with him on many topics because you always learned something from him. In addition, he could tell a great story….he had a sly wit and a great sense of humor.

He was intelligent as well as street smart and was a savvy and canny observer of life, the likes of which we will not see anytime soon.

He will be greatly missed by many people.

Memorial services have not yet been set. Announcements will be made at a later date.
