___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our PCN Flight West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

To whom it may concern,

Hello,

My name is Kevin Clark. My father, Kirk B. Clark, also known as “KB” passed away on Sunday July 31, 2022, at 5:47 pm Mountain Standard Time. He had Advanced Parkinson’s Disease. Even the VA admitted that the Parkinson’s was service related to his tour of duty in Vietnam during which he was exposed to Agent Orange.

I wanted to pass along this information for you to share with the members of the Pilot Communication list serve.

Kirk (KB) graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1962. He flew the F-!00 in Vietnam assigned to the 308th Tactical Fighter Squadron (TFS), 31st Tactical Fighter Wing, Tuy Hoa Air Base, Republic of Vietnam, from November 1967 to November 1968. During the year he was in Vietnam, Capt. Clark flew 360 combat missions, logging 548 hours of combat flying time in the F-100.

After a year of combat, Capt. Clark resigned his Regular commission and accepted a Reserve commission and left active duty. He began his commercial pilot career with Western Airlines in 1968. In 1987, Delta Airlines purchased Western Airlines. Kirk retired from Delta at the mandatory retirement age of 60 in 2000 after 32 years of service.

He retired from the USAFR with the rank of Colonel. His decorations include 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 18 Air Medals, and 2 Air Force Commendation Medals.

Kirk’s wife Cookie Clark has been sick with Alzheimer’s Disease for over five years. She finally passed away on Monday July 25, 2022. Obviously these two were so deeply connected by their love for one another that when it was time to go to heaven, they both left within one week of each other.

Full obituaries for both Kirk and Cookie are available on the Horan & McConaty Mortuary website:

www.horancares.com .

There will be a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life for both of them on Tuesday August 9 at 1 pm at the Horan & McConaty Mortuary Chapel, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave., Aurora, CO 80014. All are welcome to attend. The service will be live-streamed and recorded for later viewing on the website.

Their cremains will be interred at the USAFA Cemetery on Wednesday August 10.

Kirk’s good friend and USAFA classmate, P.K. Robinson, was able to visit Kirk over these past few years when Kirk was sick. P.K. and his wife Reta were able to visit Kirk on Thursday July 28.

If you have any questions or need more information, feel free to contact me.

Kevin Clark
