Phyliss Ritz, widow of NEA/DL Capt. Karl Ritz

Phyliss Jane Ritz

Born in Toledo, OH on Nov. 20, 1922
Departed on Aug. 13, 2012 and resided in Lynnfield, MA

Phyliss Jane (Hutchisson) Ritz of Lynnfield MA passed away suddenly on August 13, 2012 at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston; she was 89. She was born on November 20, 1922 in Toledo, Ohio. Her parents were Carroll Frank and Meldine Hutchisson; her beloved younger brother Jack Donald passed away in 2003.
 
Phyliss grew up in Toledo, graduated from Libbey High School and attended the University of Toledo with a full scholarship in English Literature. She married the love of her life, Karl Frank Ritz, in 1944, and they were happily married for almost 67 years. Karl passed away 18 months ago, and Phyliss said, "he is part of me, part of everything I do, I will love him always."
 
Phyliss leaves behind four loving children: Connie Stern and husband Michael from Reisterstown, MD; Nancy Ritz of Lynnfield; Craig Ritz and wife Kris from Warner NH; and Barbara Ritz of Aurora, Colorado. She has nine loving grandchildren: Joshua (and Maryann), Justin (and Celeste), Jonathan Ritz; David, Craig, and Richard (and Caiyan) Moreton; and Shoshana, Daniel, and Judith Stern. In addition, there are seven great-grandchildren: Jadon, Jarod, Joshua, Jersey Phyllis, Tyler, Ashton, and Darren.
 
In her youth, Phyliss loved dancing, listening to music of the '40s, sewing, cooking, working as a bank teller, taking her first plane ride with Karl as pilot, reading, volunteering as Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout leader, participating in Flower Workshop and Lynnfield Couples Club. In later life, she loved long walks with Karl, long conversations with Karl, and being with family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
 
Funeral services were private. Burial was at Puritan Lawn in Peabody. Phyliss requested that in lieu of flowers, family and friends do acts of loving kindness in her memory.

Karl Frank RITZ

RITZ Karl Frank Karl Frank Ritz of Lynnfield, MA, 90, passed away in Lynn,
MA on March 4, 2011. He was born on December 11, 1920 in his family home on
Apple Avenue in Toledo, Ohio. His parents, Frank and Walda, had three
children, Elise Laurich who lives in Twinsburg, OH, Karl, and Frank, who was
killed in the final days of WWII. Karl spent his young life in Toledo,
graduated from Libbey High School and attended the University of Toledo. He
met the love of his life, Phyliss Jane Hutchisson, married in 1944, and on
March 7, 2011 they would have been married 67 years. Karl leaves behind his
devoted wife and four loving children, Connie Stern and her husband Michael,
Nancy Ritz, Craig Ritz and his wife Kris, and Barbara Ritz; nine loving
grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, and Jonathan Ritz; David, Craig, and Richard
Moreton; and Shoshana, Daniel, and Judith Stern. In addition, he leaves
behind six great-grand-children, Jadon, Joshua, Jarod, Jersey, Tyler, and
Ashton Ritz. Karl was a devoted aviator. He was a flight instructor at
Tri-State Airport in Angola, IN. He flew with the U.S. Navy in WWII and
again in the Korean conflict. He flew for Pan American, Northeast, and then
Delta Airlines until his retirement in 1980. He was a captain, a mentor, and
an aviation safety expert. He will be greatly missed by his loving family
and friends. Donations in Karl's name can be made to Citizen's Program/

Subject: Passing of Captain Karl Ritz, Retired NE/DL

Word has been received from Captain George Chaudoin on the passing on
March 4th of Retired Captain Karl Ritz. Captain Ritz began his career
with Northeast Airlines in September 1942 and retired from Delta in
January, 1981, after 39 years of service. Karl was 90 years old.
Nancy, Karl's daughter said the service would be for family only.
Captain Chaudoin stated that we all owe Karl a great deal for his
tireless effort working over the  years for the pilots.

Bob Mudge called me last evening and said that Karl had died friday
(3/4/11) no other information at this time.  Nancy Karl's daughter
said the service would be famiy only.
We all owe Karl a great deal for his tireless efforts working over the
years for the pilots.
