___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Word has been received from David Roberts that Ret DL Capt Jim Hubbard 77 has passed.

Jim was a retired ATL Delta captain and had been the host of the weekly breakfast meeting in Fayetteville, GA for years.  A member of DGW, his address is in the roster.  I called Bob McNichols and he said that Jim had been treated for lung and liver cancer for the past several months but he had not heard the official cause of death.  He said that Jim would be cremated but that the family had not decided on a date for the memorial service with the Thanksgiving holiday this week.  More later.....

James Robert Hubbard
October 12, 1935-November 20, 2012
James Robert Hubbard died on November 20, 2012, at his home in Stockbridge, Georgia surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in Anniston, Alabama, and was the son of the late Walter Norris Hubbard and Gladys Lucille Hubbard.
As a young man, Jim was active in the Boy Scouts of America and earned the honor of Eagle Scout. He was also a member of the Anniston Swim Team and was a high and low-board diver.
He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1958 where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma-fraternity. After college, he went into the U.S. Army and attended Basic Infantry Officers School and the U.S. Army Airborne School at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He then attended the U.S. Army Flight School, and was subsequently assigned to flight duty at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona.
When his four years of active duty were completed, Delta Air Lines hired him as a commercial pilot. Jim flew the DC6, DC7, Convair 880, DC9, DC8, and ended his career as a Boeing 767 Captain. After 33 years of service, flying both domestic and international flights, he retired and enjoyed golfing, working on his computer and spending time with his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gail Coleman Hubbard, also of Anniston; two daughters, Andrea Hubbard Brewer and her husband, Adam, and Leslie Hubbard Olsen and her husband Scott; one sister and brother- in- law, Mary Hubbard Nichols and William Keith Nichols.
He is the proud grandfather of five grandchildren: Andrew Scott Olsen, Jeffrey Robert Olsen, Alexander James Brewer, Amy Colleen Brewer and Aaron Robert Brewer. He is also survived by an uncle, Steve Wallace and his wife, Carolyn.
Jim loved his eight nieces and nephews: Johnny Hubbard, Larry Hubbard, Angela Hubbard, Anna Nichols, Keith Nichols, Janey Nichols Knutson, Robert Wallace and Rebecca Griffin.
