~ Carol
Frederick Prettner finished his last flight on May 2nd, 2013.
Fred was born in Duluth Minnesota on December 3rd, 1920 to Julia and
Igantius Prettner. Fred embraced the adventure we call life from the beginning.
Flying became Fred's passion at an early age. The beauty and grace of machines
that imitate birds, and the bravery of the men that flew them was a gift that
Fred cherished his entire life. He earned his pilot's license, and enlisted in
the Army Air Corps during WWII. In 1947 he was hired by Western Airlines, "his
dream come true". As Fred liked to say," I lived to work, I never worked to
live". When Fred retired in 1971 he had built a beautiful life for his wife, son
and himself. In 1973 the Prettner family moved to Park City, the little piece of
heaven he liked to call home. Small town life had its share of challenges for
Fred, but he embraced them. Fred always lived his life in a way that enhanced
others. Patriot, father, Citizen, are the words that best describe Fred. He
enjoyed a friendly round of golf, a few Ski runs with his friends, a nice glass
of red wine, and a great conversation.
Survived by Anita Robinson (sister), Chip and Morgan Prettner and his
precious grandchildren Freddie, Lorelei and Morgan.
Remember to pay it forward, and don't forget to pay it back!
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association,
