___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

DL Capt. Charles F. McMichael III

Charles Felder McMichael

Obituary
Charles Felder McMichael Junior died July 27, 2013 of complications from lung cancer at his home in Slidell Louisiana. He was 71 when he died. Also known as "Frog", Charlie and his brother Thomas were born to Charlie Felder McMichael and Rae Thomas McMichael in Alexandria Louisiana. After Charlie's father died in World War II, Rae later remarried Griffin Connell. Charlie attended Louisiana State University where he attained a degree in 1962. From there, he went to San Diego California for Naval flight school where he fell in love with a schoolteacher named Catherine Zimmerman. Charlie had a six-year career as a Naval Aviator flying the Grumman S2 Tracker, an anti-submarine aircraft. After doing a tour of duty in Vietnam, he went on to become a flight instructor in Pensacola Florida. Charlie and Cathie wed in 1967. He left the Navy in 1968 to pursue a career in commercial aviation. Charlie was hired by Delta Airlines, and eventually settled in Slidell where he and Cathie raised their children Tad and Ashley. He retired from Delta in 2002, and continued to live in Slidell until the time of his passing. He was a devoted husband and father, as well as an avid outdoorsman. Charlie is survived by his wife Cathie, his brother Thomas, his children Tad and Ashley, and his grandchildren Jacob, Caroline, Ella, and Reed.

Party in Memory of Charlie "Frog" McMichael
     Host:  Cathie, Ashley, Tad
     Phone:  985-662-0366
     When:  Saturday, August 10 , from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM
     Where:   42140 N. Elmwood Loop , Hammond  LA 70403

Message from Host

First off, we would like to thank all of you for the support leading up to and since Frog's passing.  We have decided that a formal funeral to honor Frog just wouldn't be his style.  Instead, we would like to host a cochon de lait to share some good food, cold beer, and swap stories about the man that we all cared for so dearly.  We have chosen Saturday August 10th, as this will allow time for the shock to subside from Frog's passing and some travel time for out of towners.  Dress will be casual.  T-shirts and shorts will be fine.  Kids are welcome and there is a swimming pool behind Keith and Ashley's house where they can swim during the party.
Some have asked where they could send flowers to honor Frog's memory.  Flowers are not of much use at a pig roast, so if you would like to do something please make a donation to the American Cancer Society in his name.  A link is provided at the bottom of this message.

Please RSVP and let us know if you can attend so we can get the right size pig.  The party will be from 5:00 to 9:00, but it's fine if you can only stop by for a few minutes.  We also realize that there are a number of people who we didn't have email addresses for or were missed on this distribution.  Please feel free to forward to anyone else who you would like to attend.
Thanks,
Cathie, Ashley, Tad

Hi Travis,
Charlie (Frog) McMichael lives across the street from me.  His wife Kathy call today saying that he is not doing well at all and she called hospice.  They are to come in today and it does not look good for him.  She would not like to have any phone calls at this time.  You may want to send cards to Frog and or Kathy.  Definitely keep them in prayer. Their address is:
110 Mossy Oaks Drive,  Slidell, LA 70458
