Olive Mary Riches, widow of WA Capt. Bert Riches

Notification with the passing of Olive Mary Riches, widow of LAX based WAL Captain Eugene Albert ‘Bert’ Riches.  Olive was nearing her 97th birthday at the time of her passing.  Olive’s husband Bert was born 03-05-1917 and passed on 06-04-1988.  Captain Riches joined Western Airlines 07-01-1941 and retired 09-30-1972. 
Mrs. Riches had most recently resided at 4709 Westerly Ct.,  Oceanside  CA 92056-3001.

Olive Mary Riches, 96, passed away peacefully on December 3rd at her daughter's home in Oceanside. She was widowed in 1988 after 51 years of marriage to Eugene Albert Riches, a 31 year Captain with Western Airlines. Both Olive and 'Bert' were members of the First Graduation class of Newport Harbor Union High School in 1934. Over the years they enjoyed raising a family and boating, golfing and traveling.
 
Olive enjoyed the Theater and was active in the Newport Harbor Players, The Costa Mesa Civic Playhouse, the Laguna Playhouse and the Children's Theater Guild throughout the 1960s and 1970s. During the 1990s she was a dedicated volunteer for the Philharmonic Society of Orange County.
 
Olive is survived by her daughter, Sonja Harkin; her son, William Riches; her grandson, Daniel Riches; her granddaughter, Alison Riches Esquivel; and her great granddaughter, Augustina Esquivel.
Interment is at Pacific View Memorial Park
