___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

USAF (ret.) Major, NWA Capt. Wesley D. Schierman

Subject: Wes Schierman airport honors

Monday, July 21, the City of Arlington, WA will dedicate their airport to recently deceased retired NWA pilot, and former POW, Wes Schierman. There will be a ceremony at the Airport Office at noon on Monday.  The city will present a gift to Faye Schierman and the family in memory of Wes. This is a high honor for Wes Schierman.  Wes was long active in the Arlington Airport general aviation community, especially with the RV aircraft builders and the Black Jack Squadron (a large organization of Van’s RV demonstration pilots).  There will be a missing man formation fly-over for Wes, followed by a reception at a hanger at the south end of the airport one row east of the runway.

In case you are not familiar with Arlington Airport, it is the former USN Auxillary Station – Arlington. In recent years it has become a breeding ground for general aviation technology and known to some as Oshkosh West.  The airport is located about 4 miles east of I-5.  Leave I-5 at exit #206, travel east on WA 531 until reaching 59th Ave. NE.  Turn north on 59th Ave NE and look for signs for the airport office about midfield.

Contact Marty Foy for further details.

Well respected by his peers, a fellow colleagues writes .........
“Wes Schierman stood head and shoulders above anyone I ever met during my airline career and I knew some fine men and women.  His fellow POWs have agreed that Wes was one of four outstanding leaders in the POW ranks. His family stayed together, his kids grew up strong and resourceful, and he kept his head on straight. Wes spent his post-NWA retirement years making things happen in aviation for others. The consummate facilitator”
