Hayes Shipman McCallum, 75, passed away after a courageous six month battle with brain cancer. Hayes was born in Jackson, MS, to Hayes Shipman and Annie Lyda Heard McCallum. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marcia; brother, James (Danie) of Tucson, AZ; brother in law, Ken Thornton (Julia) of Las Vegas, NV, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins from the Idaho and Florida areas.
 
Hayes graduated from Provine High School and received his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Miss. State University in 1961. He later received his MBA from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA in 1970.
 
Hayes's dream through his entire life was to fly airplanes. In 1966 Hayes's dream was realized when he began his flying career as a pilot for Northwest Airline (NWA). He retired in 1999, but continued as a training instructor for five years.
 
Hayes continued his involvement in the aviation field through his co ownership of Environ Laboratories, an international known engineering testing laboratory, in Minneapolis, MN.
 
Hayes's life was filled with challenges and opportunities, which he always met with a smile. He was a unique person who truly loved everyone and was loved by many. He was respected for his kind spirit and gentle manner.
 
Services are scheduled for Saturday, July 19 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, visitation at 10:00, funeral at 11:00 and interment at Lakewood Memorial Park on Clinton Blvd immediately following the service.
 
The family is receiving friends at the Catering by George's at Reservoir Pointe in Ridgeland starting at 3:00. Please come and share your experiences and fun stories of Hayes's life.
 
In lieu of flowers memorials to your  charity of choice   or Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, to be used for educational training of physicians at Mayo Clinic, in memory of Hayes S. McCallum.

February 13, 1939 ~ July 6, 2014
News has been received with the passing of RNPA member retired NWA pilot Captain Hayes Shipman McCallum Jr., age 75.  Captain McCallum joined Northwest Airlines 04-11-1966 and retired in 1999.  Colleagues write that Captain McCallum began his commercial flying career as a “Second Officer on the 707/320 based Seattle, mostly flying military airlift charters to Southeast Asia. Hayes later became an instructor/check airman on a number of NWA aircraft.”  Schooled as an engineer, Captain McCallum graduated from the University of Mississippi with a BS in electrical engineering in 1961 and received his MBA degree from the University of Washington in 1970.  He and wife Marcia developed a very successful aerospace industry testing firm and remained active with EnvironLab   http://www.environlab.com/ 
Captain McCallum is survived by his wife Marcia.  Their home address is listed as
