___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Emerson Porter Kendall (1926 - 2015)

KENDALL, Emerson P. Emerson Porter "E.P." Kendall, a resident of Newnan, GA passed away on Monday, December 7, 2015 at Piedmont Newnan hospital at age 89 due to complications from pneumonia. Born in Richmond, Indiana on March 14, 1926 to Edith and Ora Melvin Kendall, Sr. E.P. was raised in the rural eastern Indiana town of Chester. He discovered a lifelong passion for aviation while on a family fishing trip as a child. He joined the Navy as soon as he was able and became a naval aviator, flying an array of aircraft and eventually served flying patrol bombers off of Kodiak Island, Alaska. After serving his country, Mr. Kendall flew crop-dusters in the Midwest. It was during this time in 1951 that while dusting in Wisconsin, he met and married Nadine "Dede" Miller. In the same year, E.P. was hired as a pilot for Delta Airlines and was based in Atlanta. E.P. & Dede lived in College Park, GA while he flew for Delta for 35 years. During his tenure he served on the negotiating committee between the carrier and the pilots union. In the late 70's he was a founding member of the Delta Pilots Assistance Committee (DPAC) and began a life-long commitment of service, helping colleagues find their way back from addiction and into healthier, more productive and spiritual lives through 12-step programs and fellowship. He was an avid fisherman throughout his life and enjoyed working outdoors. E.P. retired in 1986 and shortly thereafter he and Dede moved to Newnan. He was widowed in 2002 after 50 years of marriage. He is survived by his son Scott Kendall and wife Christine of Moreland, GA, daughter Linda Harris of Sharpsburg, GA, daughter Julie Nozaki and husband Kirk of Newnan, son Dan Kendall and wife Lesli of Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by grandchildren Evan Kendall, Brandon Kendall, Harper Harris, Kendall Harris, Savannah Kendall Charlotte Kendall and his sister Jean Perkins of Indianapolis, IN. He was preceded in death by his oldest grandchild, Matthew Kendall. The memorial service is at 3 pm, on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Moreland United Methodist Church in Moreland, GA with Rev. Brian Ridgedell officiating. E.P. will be laid to rest beside Dede at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Macular Degeneration Association or the Food Pantry at the Moreland United Methodist Church.
