C&S/DL Capt. George Maynard
February 9, 1927 ~ December 31, 2016
News has reached us with the passing of Delta Golden Wings
member retired C&S/DL pilot Captain George Maynard, age 89 and nearing his
90th birthday. George is the father of Braniff/USAirways/AA pilot John E.
Maynard and also the brother of retired Braniff pilot Captain Don Maynard.
Captain George Maynard joined Chicago & Southern 05-07-1951 and retired with
Delta Air Lines in 1987 based DFW.
He is survived by his wife
Olga.

Obituary...............................
George Maynard, a native of New Orleans and resident of River Ridge, passed
away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones, on Saturday, December 31,
2016 at 9:10 PM. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Olga Day Maynard; Five
children, John E. Maynard (Kathryn Carr Maynard), Christine Maynard Felder
(William E. Felder), George D. Maynard (Andrea Maitrejean Maynard), Mary Maynard
Hankel and Daniel D. Maynard; Six grandchildren, John E. Maynard, Jr., Amanda K.
Maynard, Jennifer Hankel Joy, Richard J. Hankel, Erica A. Maynard and Rebecca L.
Maynard; Five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; One brother,
Donald P. Maynard of Dallas, TX and one sister, Sue M. Steel of Corando, CA.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Christine D'Amico Maynard and John
E. Maynard; One sister, Betty Maynard. He graduated from the University of
Louisiana at Lafayette in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed by T. L. James
before being hired by Delta Airlines in 1951 as a Commercial Pilot. George flew
with Delta Airlines for thirty-six years and was a member of Delta Golden Wings
and was War World II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was active in real
estate and an avid tennis player. In his youth, he was awarded the Carnegie
Medal for bravery …. After retirement, George purchased a J-3 Piper Cub airplane
and flew his children and grandchildren well into his 80's. He was a parishioner
of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church and member of the Knights of
Columbus, St. Matthew the Apostle Council No. 13425. Relatives and friends of
the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of
JACOB SCHOEN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 3827 Canal St. on Wednesday, January 4,
2017 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Young Family Cemetery in Zachary, LA.
