___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Delta Captain Samuel Edward Fly
November 6, 1934 - February 9, 2017

Captain Samuel E. Fly, Sr. of Hurst passed away February 9, 2017 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on November 6, 1934 in Abilene, Texas. Sam was a pilot for Delta Air Lines for 31 years. He is preceded in death by his parents Herschel & Roberta “Boykin” Fly and great-granddaughter, Hadley D’Layne Bufe. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife Nell Fly; son Samuel E. Fly, Jr and wife Carol; son Steven E. Fly and Alexandra Benvenuto; daughter Sharon Fly David and husband William; son Scott E. Fly and wife Erin; granddaughter Melissa Bufe and husband Daniel; grandson Andrew Christopherson and fiancé Lauren Van Dam; granddaughter Whitney Fly; grandson Taylor Fly, grandson John David; grandson Jacob Fly; great-granddaughters Briley and Delaney and great-grandson Tripton; sister Barbara Cato and husband Junior; sister Geraldine Skeldon; brother Jimmy Fly and wife Judy; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved kitties Rex and Roxy. Sam’s passion for flying was evident in the many years he spent at Texas Soaring Association. After retiring from Delta Air Lines you knew where to find him - building planes or teaching someone to fly. A perfectionist at heart and a man of few words, you knew he only wanted the best FROM you and FOR you. His love for his wife of 34 years, 4 children and great-grandchildren was evident in so many ways. Even though he loved travelling the world with Nell and stopping at many airports, he was always ready to come home. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 13, 2017 from 1 – 3 PM at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home prior to the funeral service which begins at 3 PM on Monday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Tim Bach officiating. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to the Michael J. Fox for Parkinson’s Research Charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or D/FW Humane Society.
