News with the passing of retired NEA/DL pilot Capt.
Robert ‘Bob’ Quinn has reached our group. I believe Captain Quinn first joined
Northeast Airlines as a mechanic in November 1946 and retired with Delta Air
Lines as Captain in 1983, based Boston. Captain Quinn was widowed in October
2000 with the passing of his wife Mary Eleanor. Captain Quinn was 93 years of
age at the time of his passing. Services were held today February 20th in
Gloucester, Mass.

September of 1983. He started as a mechanic, then Flight Engineer to Pilot.

Mary Eleanor (Kiley) Quinn. Survived by children, Kathleen Q. Shea and husband
Chris, Robert J. "Bo" Quinn Jr. and wife Mary Ann, Christopher Quinn and wife
Patricia, Anne K. Heffernan and husband Kevin, Jane Wierbicky and husband Dirk;
grandchildren, Neil Shea and wife Heidi, Sarah Shea, Emily Sisson and husband
Stephen, Michael Quinn, Benjamin Quinn, Anna Heffernan, Luke Heffernan, Elle
Wierbicky. Funeral service will be held on Monday, Feb. 20th at 9:30 a.m. in St.
Ann's Church, Gloucester.
Visiting hours on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Greely
Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester.

Robert J. Quinn, 93, husband of the late Mary Eleanor (Kiley)
Quinn, of Gloucester, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2016 at the Hathorne
Hill Genesis in Danvers.
Born in Rockport on August 22, 1923, he was the son of the
late Dennis and Catherine (White) Quinn.
He was a graduate of Rockport High School and attended the New
England Aircraft School. For several years, he worked as an inspector of
military aircraft before joining the U.S. Army Air Force. He served as an
aircraft mechanic in the European and African Middle Eastern theatre until
1945.
Following the war, he worked for Northeast Airline as a
mechanic and flight engineer. Bob then became a pilot for Northeast which merged
with Delta Airlines in 1972. During his career he also served as Training
Captain, flying DC 9s and Boeing 727s. Bob retired as a Captain from Delta in
1983.
Throughout his life, Bob was an avid outdoorsman and golfer.
He was a longtime member of the Rockport Country Club, the same club where he
started as a caddy as a teen. He even completed a walk around Cape Ann late in
his 80s. He and Eleanor instilled in their family a love for nature, an
appreciation of the simple things in life, and a strong sense of community and
family. He was a lifelong member of St. Ann's Church and the Edward Peterson
Post 98 Rockport American Legion.
He is survived by his five children, Kathleen Q. Shea and
husband Chris, Robert J. "Bo" Quinn Jr. and wife Mary Ann, Christopher Quinn and
wife Patricia, Anne K. Heffernan and husband Kevin, Jane Wierbicky and husband
Dirk; grandchildren, Neil Shea and wife Heidi, Sarah Shea, Emily Sisson and
husband Stephen, Michael Quinn, Benjamin Quinn, Anna Heffernan, Luke Heffernan,
Elle Wierbicky; two great grandchildren Margaret and John Sisson; and many dear
nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Katherine Milne, Everett
Quinn, Margaret Veator, Mary Muise, D. Richard Quinn and James E.
Quinn.
His funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212
Washington Street, Gloucester on Monday, February 20th at 8:45 a.m. followed by
a funeral service in St. Ann's Church at 9:30 a.m. Extended family and friends
are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the
funeral home.
The burial will be held privately in Calvary
Cemetery.
Contributions may be made in his name to the Trustees of
Reservations, 572 Essex St., Beverly, MA 01915-1530 (thetrustees.org) or to the
Rockport American Legion, 32 Beach St., Rockport, MA 01966.
