___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

NEA/DL Capt. Gaetano 'Mike' Zompetti

~ IN MEMORY
Military veteran, NEA/DL Capt. Gaetano ‘Mike’ Zompetti
August 7, 1925 ~ May 6, 2017

Last week we received notice that retired Northeast/Delta pilot Captain Gaetano ‘Mike’ Zompetti had passed away at the age of 91.  Captain Zompetti was in declining health and had been in a care center since the passing of his wife Lena ..... Lena passed on January 21st.  To date I have not seen an online obituary or guestbook.... arrangements are not yet known.
Captain Zompetti joined Northeast Airlines 07-12-1954 and retired with Delta Air Lines in 1985, and was based Atlanta at the time of his retirement.  I believe he was born/raised in Massachusetts and was a WWII veteran.
Should we receive further information as to arrangements, we will be sure to pass it along.
            Thank you,
                ~ Carol for the PCN

Retired Captain Mike Zompetti's wife, Lee, recently passed away.  Lee & Mike were still living in their home of 44 years.  Lee was Mike's primary caretaker.  Mike lost his independence a few years ago and is wheel chair bound.  He also suffers from Dementia.  As a result Mike has been moved to a facility called Bridges in Nashua on Amherst Street.  He has lost his independence, his home, his life as he knew it and his soul-mate.  Cards or visits would be very much appreciated.
