Military veteran, DL Capt. Robert ‘Bobby’ Askins
September 29, 1950 ~ July 20, 2018
                                   
Robert Dow Askins, 67, of Warsaw KY, died when his plane crashed in Florence, IN on July 19, 2018.
 
He grew up in Louisville and after graduating from the University of Louisville in 1972, entered the U. S. Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force he joined Delta Air Lines. He retired from Delta in 2005, and went to work as an aviation safety inspector for the FAA in 2006.
 
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Wende; a daughter, Tara Cull of Delhi, OH.; two sisters, Christine Smith of Lexington and Elizabeth (Beth) Askins of Florence; a brother, Joe Askins of Nashville, TN; a grandson, Steven “Tucker” Cull of New Albany, IN.; and a granddaughter, Grace Cull of Florence.
 
A celebration of Bob Askins’ life will be held Friday, Aug. 3, from 1-4 p.m. at the University of Louisville Alumni/University Club. located at the Belknap Campus.
 
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the National Greyhound Foundation located at 4420 Wandering Path, Homosassa, FL 34448, www.4greyhounds.org

Sad news with the tragic fatal accident involving retired Delta pilot Captain Robert D. Askins, age 67 (note: news reports stated age 57 but believe age 67 to be correct).  Captain Askins joined Delta Air Lines 09-26-1980 and we understand that he had retired with Delta, and was based 030/CVG. 
 Arrangements are not yet known.  Additional information and/or corrections are always appreciated.

Robert (Bobby) Askins  
Update published at 2:41 p.m.:
The northern Kentucky pilot who was reported missing Thursday night has been found dead.
Robert Askins, 57, was reported missing Thursday evening after he took flight from his personal air strip off Jericho Road in Gallatin County.
Officials located Askins' body Friday afternoon where his plane crashed near Patriot in Switzerland County. Askins was pronounced dead at the scene.
A cause of the plane crash has yet to be determined.

(Gallatin County, Ky.) – A search is underway for a missing person in Gallatin County.
The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department says Robert (Bobby) Askins took off from his personal air strip on Jericho Road around 5:00 p.m. on Thursday and did not return.
Askins was flying a red and cream small plane with a tail #N228LC on it. He has not contacted his wife or friends, and there is concern he may have crashed the plane.
