USAF veteran, DL Capt. Scott Douglas Allan
May 31, 1957 - May 5, 2020
As noted in the August issue of ALPA's The Air Line Pilot
magazine ….the passing of Delta pilot Captain Scott Douglas Allan, age 62. Captain Allan joined Delta Air Lines
03-20-1987: “Scott advanced through the
ranks and became a Delta captain, flying Boeing 757/767s on international
routes. He finished his career on the Airbus 330 flying the JFK-Tel Aviv route,
always with his favorite Delta flight attendant, Jana.” Captain Allan is survived by his wife Jana and his children, plus many
more dear family members.

Obituary…………..
Scott Douglas Allan was born on May 31, 1957,
at Travis Air Force base in Fairfield, CA. He was the son of Keith and
Nancy Allan, an Air Force officer and chemist, respectively. Scott lived
the majority of his youth in Glendale, AZ where he spent his time camping in
the desert, sharpshooting, and being fascinated with science, space and
airplanes. He was brilliant and adventurous.
Scott excelled in academics and graduated from
Glendale HS in 1975, then accepted an appointment to the US Air Force
Academy. At USAFA, he joined the rifle team and became a 3-time letterman
— a rare accomplishment, which Scott attributed to his fondness for precision.
Upon graduation in 1979, Scott was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the
US Air Force and was selected for flight training. His exceptional
performance in flight school qualified him for fighters and, after a brief
period as a flight instructor, Scott reported to Andrews AFB to fly the F-15
Eagle, the Air Force’s newest high performance jet fighter. It was during his
years in service that he became known as “Woody” which was his flight call
sign.
Scott separated from service in 1986, returned
to Arizona, and became a pilot for Delta Airlines. Scott advanced through the
ranks and became a Delta captain, flying Boeing 757/767s on international
routes. He finished his career on the Airbus 330 flying the JFK-Tel Aviv route,
always with his favorite Delta flight attendant, Jana, whom he met through
their work. She shared his love of travel and adventure, so it was an immediate
love story. They married in 2015 and together they have traveled the world
several times over, living their life as one long honeymoon.
In addition to travel, Scott had a passion for
outdoor sports and adventures. He was an avid water skier and enjoyed doing
aerobatics, in planes such as The Great Lakes, as did his father before him.
Scott never met a problem he didn’t want to solve, be it a broken appliance or
a challenge requiring his clear-headed, calm logic. He had a zest for knowledge
that included wanting to learn how everything works and then sharing his
expertise with others.
Scott passed on May 5th, 2020 after a brief
battle with cancer, surrounded by his family, holding hands with Jana and
Brooke. He is survived by his daughter Brooke, devoted wife Jana, step
children Leigh Ann and Carter, as well as his brother, Reese Turner, and
sisters, Angie Turner, Summer Wilson and Autumn McCall. Due to the current
travel and social situation, a celebration of Scott’s life will be held at a
later date.
