Obituary………………..Daniel Edward Moylan (Dan) passed away
peacefully at age 77 in his home in Glenview, IL. Dan was a beloved husband of
Janis Moylan, a devoted father of Michelle Romjue (Chris), Mallory Moylan
(Eddie), Corey Moylan (Chloe), and Todd Moylan (Victoria); proud grandfather of
Catrinel Romjue and Colby Moylan; loving brother of Sue Lonkevich (George),
Larry Moylan (Arlene), Regina McLennan (Ted), and Anne Marie Moylan; and many
nieces and nephews.
Dan grew up in the Buffalo, New York suburb Tonawanda with
his parents, Mary and Edward Moylan, and four siblings. He enjoyed Ted’s hot
dogs and baking pies with his mother. His father was a Scout Master for Dan, as
he earned an Eagle Scout merit badge. He excelled at baseball, basketball and
football at Canisius High School where he achieved high honors.
Dan graduated from St. Bonaventure University in Allegany,
NY in 1965. There, he first took flight with a Navy recruiter and his love for
airplanes was cemented. Dan then attended Naval officer flight training in
Pensacola, FL where he relished a “Top Gun” lifestyle and received his flight
wings in 1967. He was a decorated fighter pilot, VA36 squadron, while serving
onboard the USS Intrepid during the Vietnam War from 1968 – 1969. Dan flew nine
different military jets and retired as a Commander in the Naval reserves. Dan
was a commercial pilot for Eastern Air Lines, Captain at Northwest Airlines and
also flew for Delta Airlines for a total of 41 years.
Dan was a loving family man and very active baseball, soccer
and basketball coach for his four children. He was an avid tennis player and
gardener. Married for almost 37 years to his lovely wife Janis. They enjoyed
traveling, skiing, biking and whitewater rafting in their younger years. He was
a dedicated volunteer, a “handy person for others”, and a brave hero for our
country.
