Notification with the passing of retired Pan Am/Delta pilot and USAF veteran Lt. Colonel John William Weinig III, age 76.  Captain Weinig joined Pan American 06-03-1987 and retired with Delta Air Lines.  He is survived by his wife Nancy, her children and their grandchildren.  Obituary information is available online at    https://www.mckoon.com/obituaries/John-Weinig/#!/Obituary

Obituary : John William Weinig III

Lt. Colonel John William Weinig III, USAF, Retired, 76, of Newnan passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021 at Insignia Health of Newnan. He was born January 2, 1945 in Cincinnati, OH to the late John W. Weinig, Jr. & Audrey Jean Revenaugh Weinig.

 

John graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1967 where he honorably served until retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1987. During his military service as a pilot, he achieved many accolades including the Distinguished Flying Cross with Eight Oak Leaf Clusters for his service in Vietnam. John was also a commercial pilot with Delta Airlines where he retired after many years of service. He was a devoted member of Heatherwood Baptist Church in Newnan.

 

The memorial service, with military honors, is 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 4, 2021 in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Dr. Joel Smelley officiating. The interment at Oak Hill Cemetery is private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heatherwood Baptist Church, 721 Shenandoah Blvd, Newnan, GA 30265.

Survivors include wife, Nancy Howle Weinig and her children, Randy (Katie) Davis, Chuck (Kim) Davis; brother, Stephen (Carolyn) Weinig; nephews, Mark (Lindsey) Weinig, Brad (Annie) Weinig; and grandchildren, Reagan Davis, Reid Davis, Jake Davis, Callie Davis, Ben Davis.
