Sydney Cecile Womack, widow of DL Capt. Wilbur Allen (Al) Womack Jr.

February 20, 1936 - March 28, 2022

 


Word has been received with news of the passing of Delta Golden Wings member Mrs. Sydney Womack, widow of MSY based Delta Air Lines pilot Captain Wilbur (Al) Womack and the mother of NWA/DL pilot Captain Jeffery Womack.  Mrs. Womack is survived by her children and by her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Obituary :

Sydney Cecile Wood Womack was born on Feb 20, 1936 in St James, Louisiana to the late Sidney and Cecile Wood. She was welcomed into heaven on March 28, 2022 by her loving husband Wilbur “The Good Captain” Womack, her daughter Julia Womack, and our Lord Jesus Christ. She was 86 years old. She was a resident of Jackson, LA where she was well known and respected for generosity, sewing, gardening, friendship, and dedication to the Catholic Church. Above all, she was the heart, soul, and matriarch of the family. She graduated from St James High School in 1954 and from Charity School of Nursing in 1957. She had a passion for caring for those in need which she passed on to generations after her. She is survived by her children Jay Womack, Jennifer Womack, and Jeffery (Kimberly) Womack, her grandchildren Kacie (Ross) Louque, Kelie (Travis) Duhe, Sydney Womack, and Cameron Womack, and her great grandchildren Hallie, Drew, Gage, and Quinn. She is preceded in death by her husband Wilbur Womack, daughter Julie Womack, and brothers John and Michael Wood. Visitation will be Thursday March 31, 2022 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Mass will begin at 2:00pm with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

DL Capt. Wilbur Allen ‘Al’ Womack Jr.

October 19, 1930 - July 25, 2020

Captain Wilbur Allen Womack Jr “The Good Captain” peacefully embarked on his last flight to heaven at home on July 25, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born on October 19, 1930 to the late Wilbur Allen Womack Sr. and Berkie Estelle Mills Womack. The Good Captain served in the US Navy Korean War and was a Pilot for Delta Airlines for 34 years. He is survived by his loving wife Sydney Wood Womack of whom he was married for 63 years…………….
