___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Full Obituary :

Mary “Mickey” (Morgan) Higginson passed away peacefully at home on June 20, 2023, after a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife and best friend of Carl R Higginson for over 53 years. They were happily married on Valentine Day in 1970.

Born in Roscommon Ireland, Mary Helene Morgan grew up in Williamstown, Co. Galway, Ireland, second oldest of seven children, to the late John Morgan and Bridget (Brennan) Morgan. Like many Irish families, Mary wasn’t called by her given name, but rather by a nickname, “Marlene.” Many Irish children were given the first names of saints, so to avoid confusion, children were given nicknames or called by their middle name. Marlene was simply the running together of Mary and Helene. To this day, family and close Irish friends still call her Marlene. It was not until Marlene arrived in Boston that she was given another nickname, “Mickey.”  Confused, don’t worry, her husband didn’t know her true given name until after several months of dating.

Mary/Marlene immigrated to Boston, December 2, 1966, having accepted employment as an   au pair for a Boston family with a young daughter. The shock of adjusting from the simple rural life in Ireland to the inner circles of Bostonians was a challenge and a joy. It was the family that employed her who gave her the name, “Mickey.” This was to avoid confusion with their local friends also having the name Mary or Marlene. The nickname stuck, and she was called Mickey by all that knew her.

Upon completion of her au pair contract, Mickey looked for employment as a Stewardess. She was hired by Northeast Airlines on January 25, 1968. It was while working for the airline that Mickey met her husband to be, Carl, in July 1968. Mickey completed 11 years of service with Northeast/Delta Air Lines before retiring to raise their two children, Scott and Kelly.

Mickey enjoyed entertaining and was famous for her St. Patrick’s Day parties. There was never a shortage of food or good Irish cheer at any of her parties. Friends came early and stayed late.

For almost five years Mickey had a small shop at the Gray Goose Co-Op in Londonderry, NH, were she sold Irish, Scottish, and English goods.

In addition to her husband Carl, Mickey is also survived by her two children, Scott Morgan Higginson, wife Gayla, two grandsons, Liam and Conor, all of Fishers, IN. Also, her daughter Kelly Ann (Higginson) Frazier of Merrimack, NH.

Mickey is also survived by her younger sister, Patricia (Morgan) Kenny, and husband Patrick of Dunmore, Ireland; brother, Joseph Morgan, and wife Bernadette, of Williamstown, Ireland; brother, Neil Morgan, of Williamstown, Ireland; sister, Bella Morgan, of Dublin, Ireland; and brother, Michael (Gerry) Morgan, and wife Kathy, of Medfield, Ma. There are also numerous nieces and nephews with children.

Mickey was predeceased by her older brother, John Morgan, of Dublin, Ireland, and brother-in-law Bruce Higginson, of Lafayette, Indiana.

Relatives and friends are invited to Mickey’s visitation on FRIDAY, June 30th from 4 until 8 PM at ROCHETTE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 21 Kinsley Street, Nashua. Her Funeral Mass will be held on SATURDAY, July 1st at 11 AM in St. Christopher Church, 62 Manchester Street, Nashua. KINDLY MEET AT CHURCH.. If you would like to virtually attend Mickey’s Funeral Mass, please visit https://www.stchrisparishnh.org/live-streaming.   Mickey’s interment will be held on WEDNESDAY, July 5th at 10 AM in the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen, NH. KINDLY MEET AT THE CEMETERY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to “Cure PSP, 1216 Broadway, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10001” or online at www.psp.org/iwanttohelp/ways-to-give/
