February 20, 1939 – July 22, 2023

 


Notice of passing….retired Delta Air Lines pilot Captain Charles Frederick “Fred” Acker, age 84.  Captain Acker joined Delta Air Lines 07-08-1968 and was based Fort Lauderdale.  He is survived by his wife Carolyn, and by his children and their families.

Charles Frederick “Fred” Acker obituary:

Charles Frederick “Fred” Acker, 84, of Cairo, GA, passed away at Wight Inpatient Hospice Center at Archbold in Thomasville, GA, on Saturday, July 22, 2023.

 

Mr. Acker was born on February 20, 1939, in Miami, FL, to the late Fred Arlin Acker and Evelyn Marie Foster Acker.  He was a graduate of the University of Miami.  After proudly serving his country as a pilot in the United States Navy for five years, he then had a distinguished thirty-year career as a pilot for Delta Air Lines.  On November 25, 2001, he married Carolyne Pritchard Howell, who survives.

 

Fred was a man of principles and integrity, who brought joy and happiness to all of those around him.

 

Survivors include: his wife, Carolyne Howell Acker of Cairo, GA; children, Scott Acker (Atessa) of Miami, FL, Kelly Acker (Charlie) of Miami, FL, Casey Howell (Tracey) of Thomasville, GA, Dallas Howell (Julian) of Sandy Springs, GA; grandchildren, Camron Acker of Miami, FL, Regan Howell (Kent) of Lakeland, GA, Barrett Howell, Lauryn Howell, both of Statesboro, GA; great-granddaughter, Avery Stevens of Lakeland, GA; and a sister, Ricki Maddox of Tallahassee, FL.

 

He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Patricia Acker; and a brother-in-law, Charlie Maddox.
