“NWA Captain John 'Grant' Herr, age 87, passed away on September 23, 2023.

"Grant' was hired by NWA on May 15, 1967. The following obituary was posted

on September 29 in the Minneapolis Star and Tribune.”

 Life story :

"Herr, John "Grant" 87, of Bloomington, Mn. Passed away peacefully on

September 23, 2023. Grant was born in Columbus, Ohio and was Ohio State

University's greatest football fan. He and his wife Erlene graduated from

Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and became a "Miami Merger." Grant was an

USAF Captain and flew the F-100 in Vietnam. He was a 757 Captain, instructor

pilot, and 30 year employee at Northwest Airlines. Grant enjoyed biking,

hiking, camping in the BWCA, winter tennis in Florida, and gardening with

his wife. He will be remembered for his humility, dedication to his family,

and telling humorous stories with a twinkle in his eye. Grant is survived by

his wife of 65 years, Erlene, children Richard and Katrina, grandchildren

Caitlyn, Ryan and Grant, great grandchildren Eevie and Isla, sister Annette

and brother Chuck. Private services will be held. Donations may be made to

JDRF to end Type One Diabetes. "
