___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

WA/DL Capt. Anthony “Tony” Akelis

Requesting information…..

~ IN MEMORY ~

WA/DL Capt. Anthony “Tony” Akelis

August 13, 1933 ~ March ? , 2021

In March of 2021 we received notice that Western/Delta pilot Captain Tony Akelis had died after a short illness while in NYC but our information was brief and arrangements were never known.  Tony joined Western Airlines 05-09-1963 and retired with Delta Air Lines in 1993.  Tony was SFO based and then based Los Angeles at the time of his retirement.  Tony was widowed June 2, 2019 with the passing of his wife Rita.  He is survived by their children Aline and Vincent.  Rita’s obituary information is available online at    https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/name/rita-akelis-obituary?pid=193064562  and on our memorial site at  https://pcnflightwest.blogspot.com/2019/06/rita-kwan-akelis-wife-of-wadl-capt-tony.html

Rita met her future husband, a pilot, Captain Anthony Akelis of Delta Air Lines, who at that time was a Flight Engineer for United States Overseas Airlines. While flying the Pacific, Rita dated Tony. They married in Hong Kong in 1962 at a Catholic church.

If anyone has more information to share, we would appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you,

~ Carol for the PCN
