Retired Northwest Airlines pilot Captain Stuart “Stu”
T. Ecker lost his life due to a tragic accident last month while traveling in
Montana. Stuart joined Northwest
Airlines 02-22-1967.

Stuart Ecker Obituary
Stuart Thomas Ecker, a cherished resident of Wickenburg, Arizona, passed
on July 9th, 2024 in Montana. Born on July 10, 1942, in Canton, Ohio, Stuart
was a distinguished retired pilot with Northwest Airlines.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Norris; his mother, Sue
Thomas; and his brother, Robert Norris Ecker.
A dedicated member of the Wickenburg Country Club, Stuart remained
passionate about flying even after retirement, continuing to enjoy his personal
planes. His interests extended beyond aviation to hiking, biking, working out,
and maintaining his fitness. He also had a competitive spirit, particularly in
playing pegs and jokers. Stuart loved to travel across the U.S. and Canada
during the summers with his beloved companion, Peg Ellenberger, with whom he
shared 18 wonderful years. His fondness for ice cream and jelly beans brought
joy to many.
Stuart was warmly welcomed into Peg’s family and cherished the many
friendships he formed throughout his life. He is survived by his loving
companion, Peg Ellenberger; niece, Jill K. Rood; and nephew, Robert Scott
Ecker.
A memorial to honor and celebrate Stuart’s life will be
held at a later date.

BOZEMAN, Mont. - An
81-year-old man from Arizona died, and a 77-year-old woman from Arizona was
injured in a crash on US Highway 191 outside of Bozeman on Tuesday. The other
driver involved in the crash fled the scene.
The crash occurred at 5:53 PM
on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, near Mile Marker 71, when road conditions were dry,
according to the news release from Montana Highway Patrol.
The 81-year-old was traveling
southbound in a Dodge Ram at the same time a different vehicle was traveling
northbound in the southbound lanes. The 81-year-old driver encountered the
other vehicle at MM 71.2 and swerved, causing the trailer on the Dodge Ram to
fishtail.
The truck and the trailer left
the roadway and rolled, causing the driver to sustain life-threatening
injuries.
The other vehicle quickly fled
from the scene. The car is described as a dark colored sedan.
