Marshall Lynn Reed, 82, passed away on August 1,
2024 at his home in Franklin Tennessee. He was surrounded by his beloved Linda
and his four children during his final days.
Marshall was born on October 22, 1941 in Colby,
Kansas to Kenneth and Josephine (Greenwood) Reed. He was raised on a farm south
of Monument, Kansas with his parents and younger sister, Judith. Graduating
from Oakley High School in 1959.
Marshall went on to attend Kansas State University
for a year before moving back to Oakley, Kansas. In 1963, he married Eloise
Munk and started farming in Gem, Kansas. Three years later he attended flight
school in Greeley, Colorado. In 1966, he was hired as a flight instructor in
Phoenix, Arizona. In 1968, he was hired by Bonanza Airlines and in 1976 he made
Captain on a 40 passenger turbo propelled aircraft. Through several airline
mergers, Marshall was able to Captain the 727, DC9 and DC10 aircrafts. He ended
his career with Northwest Airlines (now Delta) where he flew international
routes.
Marshall and Eloise were married for 14 years and
had four amazing children. In 1982, Marshall remarried Linda Hooker in Phoenix,
Arizona. They remained married and enjoyed golfing and traveling in their RV
until Linda’s death in 2016. In 2018, Marshall met and fell in love with his
angel, Linda Smith. They spent summers in Tennessee and winters in Florida.
Linda cared deeply for her kind, loving, gentle Marshall through his final
days.
Marshall is survived by his angel Linda Smith of
Ocala, FL, his sister, Judy Getty of League City, TX, his first wife, Eloise
Tholen of Hays, KS, his oldest daughter Shirlee (Gerald) Katt of Grainfield,
KS, his only son, Kenneth (Becky) Reed of Watford City, ND, his middle
daughter, Christine Snyder (Rick) of Spencer, TN and his youngest daughter,
Rhonda Windholz of Franklin, TN. Marshall has 10 grandchildren and 8 great
grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his second wife, Linda, and his
mother and father.
A graveside service and celebration of Marshall’s
life will take place later this fall in Oakley, Kansas.
In lieu of
flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research
Hospital in his honor.
Marshall never knew a stranger and was always
ready for happy hour. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all
that knew him.
