Gerald Henderson Walker, age 87, of Colleyville,
Texas, passed away peacefully at home on September 1, 2025, surrounded by his
loving family.
Born in American Fork, Utah, Gerald was the eldest
of eight children of Franklin Richardson Walker and Helen Henderson Walker. He
was raised in Vernal, Utah, and later attended the University of Utah before
serving a 2½-year mission in Taiwan for The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. There, he learned Mandarin Chinese and developed a lifelong
love for Asian culture and people.
After his mission, Gerald graduated from Brigham
Young University and married Christie Cannon—his eternal companion and greatest
blessing. He served as a fighter pilot and flight instructor in the U.S. Air
Force during the Vietnam War. In 1970, he began a 25-year career as a pilot for
Delta Air Lines. He and Christie eventually settled in Colleyville, Texas,
where they raised six children and built a life rooted in faith, family,
service, and laughter.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints, Gerald served in numerous roles, including Bishop,
Patriarch, temple sealer, and later as President of the Taipei Taiwan Temple.
After retiring, he and Christie dedicated their lives to church and
humanitarian service in locations such as Washington D.C., Taiwan, Florida, and
North Texas. His final years were spent teaching and mentoring youth—a role he
cherished.
Gerald will be remembered for his gentle spirit,
unwavering faith, selfless service, dry wit, and deep love for his family and
Savior.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Christie;
children: Wendy Pray (Rick), Gerald C. Walker, Cheryl Searle (Russell), Marcie
Bayles (Scott), Rachel Walker, and Brenda Eller (Scott); siblings: Patt
Snelgrove, Rosemary Christiansen, Richard Walker, and Charlie Walker; 19
grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren—and counting.
