We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Duane was born November 8, 1967 in Kankakee, Illinois and grew up in Bourbonnais, Illinois. He was the beloved son of Byron and Norma (Wickham) Romey of Clearwater, Florida.

He married Shelley Randolph on May 4, 2002 in Grapevine, Texas. She survives.

Other survivors include his three children: Chase Wickham, Kendall Paige, and Duncan Neel Romey, all at home; his sister: Donna (James) Pardew of Indianapolis, Indiana; father/mother-in-law: Corky and Dorothy (Neel) Randolph of Fort Myers, Florida; sister-in-law's: Stephanie Saum of Lehigh Acres, Florida, Danyne Bharj (Surj) of Oolteweh, Tennessee; brother-in-law's: Misha Randolph (Amy) of Naples, Florida, Jeremy Randolph (Stephanie) of Fort Meyers, Florida; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Duane was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Clinton and Minerva Wickham and paternal grandparents: E. Eugene and Thelma Romey; brother-in-law: Vince Saum.

Duane's early interest in aviation lead him to start flying at 16 while in high school.

Duane's flying career ignited his passion for instruction which became a life-long pursuit. After numerous jobs building experience in his flying career, Duane was hired at Delta in late 2001. During the next 5 years, while waiting to be recalled following the 9/11 furloughs, Duane and his wife Shelley, moved to Australia in September 2005 where he worked for Aero Rescue, training their crews in the special mission Dornier 328. They returned to the United States and moved to Newnan, Georgia in February 2008. Duane attained the rank of Captain flying the Airbus A320.

Duane attended the Calvary Chapel Newnan Church. His community activities were extensive, though he was most proud of his volunteer work introducing many future pilots to aviation through the EAA Young Eagles program and his involvement in the Civil Air Patrol.

Duane had many hobbies; playing tennis, flying, traveling with his family, listening to country music, hymns, and bad '80s music.

Duane touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Obituary

Bob Friedricks

Bob, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, has passed away at 90. Bob was born in Fremont, Nebraska, and moved with his mother and stepfather to Glendale, California at the age of 11. He graduated from Herbert Hoover High School and Glendale College.

In January 1952 he married Mary Schelling — they soon would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary — and had two children, Steven Dale and Kristy Lynn (McConnell). The family lived in Sylmar, California. In 1974 Bob and Mary moved to Westlake Village, and in 1994 to La Quinta. For many years they also had a house in Lake Arrowhead which was treasured by their grandchildren, who knew it as their home for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and many other family events.

Bob flew for non-scheduled airlines for a few years before signing on with Western Airlines in 1953. He became a Supervisory Captain, and in addition to regular airline routes he delivered two Boeing 707s to Beruit, Lebanon. Mary stayed with him in Saudi Arabia for a month when he delivered the Sheik's private (and ornately updated) 707; the Sheik insisted Bob supervise the pilots in the cockpit whenever he flew. Western merged with Delta Airlines in 1987; Bob was one of their most senior Captains until he flew the last of his 35,000 hours as a commercial pilot in 1991. He periodically flew small private airplanes throughout his 80s.

In retirement he golfed and played tennis and bridge. He was a member of Soldiers Organized Services, which transports Marines between the Palm Springs airport and the 29 Palms Marine Base. Bob also volunteered as a docent at the Palm Springs Air Museum, where his station was primarily in the B-17 hangar.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Kristy; son-in-law, Scott; daughter-in-law, Linda; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. His son, posthumously promoted to Brigadier General in the Air Force Reserve and a Wing Commander in the California Air National Guard, predeceased him in 2008.

In remembrance of Bob's life, a donation may be made to the Steven Friedricks College Scholarship at the 146th Wing Association <146thwingassociation.org>.

Perhaps most importantly, he would always insist with every goodbye: "remember to keep your nose up in the turn!"

A Celebration of Life will be held December 2 @ 3:00 at the Palm Springs Air Museum

Obituary : Frank Houston Adair

Frank Houston Adair, age 89, passed away Thursday, November 11th. He was born in Goodwater, Alabama in 1932, the son of the late Cecil and Evie Cannon Adair, as the oldest of four children. As a veteran, it seemed appropriate for him to move from this life to the next on Veteran’s Day. He passed peacefully in his sleep after a lengthy illness.

Frank served in the Air Force and was stationed in post-war London, England then in Roswell, New Mexico where he met the love of his life, JoAn Stevens. They married in 1953 and moved to Graceville, Florida after his discharge from the military.

He had a fascination with aviation and a dream to fly. He progressed from an airplane mechanic to crop duster to forest fire spotter to charter pilot and finally commercial airline pilot. As a captain for Southern Airways, Republic Airlines, and Northwest Airlines, Frank lived in Memphis, Tennessee the majority of his life. He was able to retire at an early age and enjoyed square dancing and traveling the country with JoAn in their camper van.

Frank enjoyed adventure and the outdoors, often fly-fishing, hiking, mountain climbing, running, sailing, scuba diving, snow skiing, or playing tennis. He loved the mountains and established a second home in Colorado where he spent many happy days. Frank spent his last few years at Kirby Pines LifeCare Community and was thankful for the care he received there. When asked, he said his finest accomplishment and greatest joy was his and JoAn’s family of four children, twelve grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

He leaves a legacy of love, his faith in God, integrity, kindness, and deep friendships. He will be remembered for much, including his laughter, quick wit, humble leadership, and kind heart. We celebrate his life and his Savior.

Frank Adair was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jeanette Adair Heisler. He is survived by his wife JoAn Stevens Adair, his sons Doug (Susan), Greg (Genetta), and Steve (Melissa); daughter Michelle Adair Webb (Scott); grandchildren Danny (Jen), Joanna Adair Hull (Matthew), Houston (Kyndra), Steven Bryce (Alexis), Austin, Drew, Mason, Will (Andrea), Lydia, Carter, Meredith, Kate; and great-grandchildren Jack, Ashley, Katie, Jackson Hull, Brandtley Hull, Avery, Cora, Camilla, and Riley; his sister Ann Adair Ewert; and brother Joe (Cyndy).

A memorial service will be held in the Kirby Pines LifeCare Community chapel on December 4th at 2:30 pm. To place online condolences, please visit www.memorialparkfuneralandcemetery.com

As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

TYLER TX — Retired Captain Billy B. Burt "flew west" to his final destination on August 29, 2021. He was born January 1, 1941, the first baby born in Tyler that year. Billy attended Tyler public schools and was in the first graduating class at Robert E. Lee High School in 1959. He then continued his education at Tyler Junior College and North Texas State University (University of North Texas).

Billy met the love of his life, Mary Bruce Harper, in the ninth grade at Hogg Junior High School when he needed an accompanist for his trumpet solo. They were married September 14, 1961 and were just two weeks shy of their 60th anniversary when Billy passed. Together they had two children, Elaine Burt of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Benjamin Burt of San Diego, California.

From an early age Billy was fascinated with airplanes and had a deep desire to fly. He did his early flight training at Tyler Pounds Field Airport and finished his ratings in Fort Worth, Texas. He then flew for Air Activities and Fleetway Airlines before beginning his career with Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis, Minnesota January 6, 1969. After retirement he focused his time on portrait photography, continuing to play his trumpet, and, when time and weather permitted, riding his motorcycles. Billy loved flying, but music was his true passion. He and Mary Bruce spent countless hours listening to their favorite music. Later he spent many more hours in their home studio composing and recording music that he and Mary Bruce wrote.

Preceding Billy in death were his parents, William E. (Bill) Burt and Doris A. (Lumpkin) Burt. December 19, 1935 ~ November 11, 2021 (age 85)

Captain H. Terry Crowell of Salado, Texas went West on his final flight, November 11th, 2021, at his residence with his wife, Patricia by his side.  Terry was born in Montezuma, Georgia on December 19, 1935 to Terry Crowell and Willodean Davis Crowell.  He went to grade schools in Montezuma and attended the University of Georgia.

After attending the university he moved to Tampa, Florida where he went on with Delta Air Lines ground service and then moved to San Francisco to work the reservations and worked as a Red Coat agent in the San Francisco terminal with Delta.  During his time in San Francisco, he learned to fly privately and in 1965, the big hiring speer started with the airlines for pilots.  He went to Miami, Florida to apply with National Airlines and was hired September 29, 1965.  His career started with flying Lockheed Electra, 4 engine aircraft, then moved on to the Boeing 727's, McDonnell Douglas DC-8's and the McDonnell Douglas DC-10's.  Then, on January 07, 1980, Pan American Airways acquisition of National was completed, with Pan American World Airways taking over the National Airlines fleet and route network.  He and fellow pilots went to Toulouse, France to train and bring home the first four AirBus 300's adding to Pan Am’s fleet. Pan Am went on to acquire the AirBus 310 which Terry flew.  In 1991 Pan American went bankrupt and ceased operations in December 1991.  At that time Pan American transferred much of their assets to Delta Air Lines and Terry moved on to Delta Air Lines.  He flew the Boeing 757 and 767/767 ER, up to his time of retirement in February 01, 2001.

During his flying, he met the love of his life, Patricia Fowler, a flight attendant on a flight they were working together going to San Francisco. Two weeks later, he asked her to marry him and six months later they were married April 29, 1972 in Miami Springs, Florida.  They have flown all over the world and had the opportunities to live in Osaka, Japan, Bangkok, Thailand and Toulouse, France. They saw and enjoyed the world together.  They lived in Miami, Florida, Charlotte, North Carolina, Kalispell, Montana and retired in Salado, Texas.

Terry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Crowell of Salado, Texas.  He is preceded in death by his father, Terry Crowell of Panama, his mother Willodean Crowell Babineau of Newnan, Georgia and grandmother, Lillie Davis of Atlanta, Georgia.

Funeral services for Captain Crowell will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum. Due to entombment, flowers will be limited. If you wish, send flowers to Patricia at their home.
