WA/DL Capt. John Forrest Gulledge II

~ IN MEMORY ~

USAF veteran, WA/DL Capt. John Forrest Gulledge II

August 21, 1937 - November 25, 2015

Date of Hire: 01-27-1969

Obituary :

John F. Gulledge II, 78, from Coto de Caza, CA passed away on November 25th, 2015, from complications of Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia. He is survived by his loving wife, Pili; his mother-in-law, Consuelo (aka, Lala); his daughter, Jennifer; his six sons, Karl, John III (and wife, Trish), Alex (and wife, Gretchen), Aaryn (and wife, Vannesa), Reuben (and girlfriend, Courtney), and Andrew (and wife, Leslie); and six grandchildren. John was also very close to his nephew, Elias (and wife, Lori), and their three children. He will be missed greatly by all for his kindness, easy sense of humor, loyalty, and honorability.

John was born on August 21st, 1937, to Joseph and Faye Gulledge in Siloam Springs, AR, and grew up in Salisaw, OK. His academic and athletic accomplishments in high school paved the way for him to be invited into the very first class of the Air Force Academy. While at the Academy, John made many lifetime friends, started on the Cotton Bowl winning team, and began his noble military service. After graduating in 1959, John flew in Korea and Vietnam, achieving the rank of Captain before leaving honorably for a career in commercial aviation. He served Western and Delta Airlines as navigator, copilot, captain, and instructor for over 28 years before retiring in 1997.

John Gulledge was much more than a military and commercial pilot in his long, fruitful, and fulfilling life. He was a loving and caring husband and best friend to Pili for 27 wonderful years, a supportive father and role model for his six boys, and a kind and generous husband to their mother, Mali. He served as coach, referee, and #1 fan for all of his children, both on and off the athletic fields, instilling in them the importance of sportsmanship and fairness. He spent much of his free time traveling with and to friends and family across the country because they meant so much to him. One of John’s favorite activities was watching football with his family, especially Steelers’ games, while sipping a beer or Scotch. His home was often a gathering place for friends, family, great food, and even better times.

Memorial services for John Gulledge were held on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at the Coto de Caza Country Club. John’s ashes will be interred at the Air Force Academy in January, 2016. Contact Pili (pili@piligulledge.com) or Alex (alexander.gulledge@skywest.com) for details. John’s smile, kindness, and genuine friendship will last in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

Robert (Bob) Frick of Jackson, CA died Friday May 13, 2022 after a several years battle with dementia. Bob was born August 4, 1936 in Orange, CA.

As a young boy, and only child he moved with his mother Emily to San Francisco and grew up in the city. At Lowell High School he participated in track and field events. Upon graduation, he attended San Francisco City College for two years and then joined the United States Navy in 1957. He spent 10 years serving his country as a pilot including serving in the Pacific theater during the Vietnam War.

After leaving the Navy he went to work for Frontier and then Western Airlines as a pilot and was domiciled in Denver, CO where he met the love of his life Jo Ann Ayres. They married in Denver in 1967 and his work took them to Salt Lake City and Anchorage, AK before eventually moving back to the Bay area where they lived until 2004. When Western Airlines was purchased by Delta Airlines Bob continued his flying career with Delta, flying routes around the US and Internationally, concluding his career in the then new Boeing 757. After retirement from Delta Bob flew charter flights, a charter King Air, and was a flight instructor at Navajo Aviation. In 2004 they settled in Jackson, where Bob was active in the Jackson area Lions Club. He and Jo were also active in the New Life Church, in Jackson. Bob’s faith was an important part of his life.

NCA/RC/NWA Capt. Harold James Alton, Jr.

~ IN MEMORY ~

USAF veteran, NCA/RC/NWA Capt. Harold James Alton, Jr.

October 30, 1934 ~ March 3, 2022

Notice of passing…..retired North Central/Republic/Northwest pilot Captain Harold J. Alton, Jr., age 87.

Obituary : https://www.messingermortuary.com/obituary/Harold-AltonJr

Harold J. Alton, Jr., age 87, died peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2022. Harold (Harry) is survived by his wife Margaret (Maggie) Alton, Kathy (Tom) Blanton, Lee Ann (Mike) Basham, Mary Jo (Steve Haynes) Alton, Martha (Todd) Ori, Thomas J. Alton (deceased) and Susan Molloy. Harry is a beloved Grandpa to six grandchildren; Lindsay, Sarah and Thomas Blanton and Michael, Elizabeth and Jack Basham.

Harry learned to fly at the age of 14 at Holman Field Airport in Downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. He went to St. Thomas Military Academy and then tried college with a semester at Notre Dame and one at St. Thomas College but couldn’t fight the urge to fly. He traded the books for two years in the U. S. Air Force and then served in the Air National Guard. At the ripe age of 21 he was hired at North Central Airlines and began his airline career in the right seat of a DC-3 where he met his future wife, Maggie, a stewardess. After 39 years and over 35,000 hours Harry became the senior pilot of the Northwest Airlines’ fleet of 5400. A brief reward as the airlines then had mandatory retirement at the age of 60. Harry retired in 1994.

Harry always said he had a “blessedly uneventful career”. No major emergencies and only one emergency landing in a DC-9 back in the 1980’s. He prided himself on calm flights but most importantly, smoother landings.

Harry had many hobbies; he continued to fly privately until around 2010, he crafted hundreds of model airplanes and cars in his workshop, he loved football and most sports, but more than anything he enjoyed spending time with his wife of 65 years Maggie, family and friends. Harry is renowned for his love of aviation, his great sense of humor but most of all, his appreciation for God’s many blessings in his life. We will remember him most for his positive attitude and making the most out of every day.

Harry will be interred at Paradise Memorial Gardens at a small ceremony on April 2. A celebration of his life will be held on April 2, from 1-5 at 11786 E Arabian Park Dr. in Scottsdale, AZ 85259 - Gate code 423 .

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to a veterans charity of your choice.

Uncle Frank, as he was affectionately known by his nieces and their friends, flew West on April 16, 2022.  He was 81. In between his airline trips, Captain Mayne enjoyed decades  as a lab instructor in Marine Biology

at Diablo Valley College.

In keeping with his wishes, Captain Mayne’s funeral was private/family only.

By Frank’s side, at his funeral were:

His Sister, Ginny Glavinovich, nieces Natalie Glavinovich, Chelsea McClure and

Obituary : Terry Paul Virus

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Terry Paul Virus, age 73, on May 3rd, 2022.

Terry was an accomplished Navy and Commercial pilot and soon to be pro golfer (he would appreciate the humor), along with being a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to all. Terry lived a full life of adventure, abundant laughter, and love for his furry kids, Woodie, and Sadie – they were the perfect three some!

In celebration of Terry's life, if you are interested in honoring him through a donation, we are recommending the MPN Research Foundation. The foundation's single goal is to stimulate original research in pursuit of new treatments and eventually a cure for Polycythemia Vera, a disease Terry lived with for 12 years.

PV is a rare, chronic blood cancer in which a person's body makes too many platelets and red blood cells, which causes the blood to thicken and not flow normally through arteries and veins. PV is a chronic, progressive disease that worsens over time and can lead to other blood diseases such as Leukemia.

To learn more about Polycythemia Vera or donate, please refer to MPM Research 's Foundation website @ www.mpnresearchfoundation.org

Virginia M. SCHWENNEKER, widow of DL Capt. Don Schwenneker

NOVEMBER 26, 1931 – APRIL 18, 2022

 Obituary : https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/houston-tx/virgina-schwenneker-10715161

Virginia Schwenneker passed away on Monday April 18th, 2022 at the age of 90 years. She was born on November 26, 1931, in Chicago Illinois to John and Katrina Mlade. She had two brothers, her older brother John and her younger brother Nick whom she both dearly loved. Family was always important to her and she would make it a point to enjoy those moments together. In her younger years she would spend time in school and then help out her parents in their restaurant named after her “Virginia’s Lunch”. She would comment and tell stories about the colorful people that she would see come and go over the years. She often talked about ice skating and snowball fights in the winter and enjoying a ride on her father’s motorcycle on warm summer evenings.

After graduating High School, she stayed in Chicago working in an office for about a year. One day her father who had been on an airplane flight back to Chicago suggested she apply for a stewardess position with several airlines. She took his advice and shortly thereafter found herself with a job at Eastern Airlines. She took off on a new adventure and traded the cold winters of Chicago for the warmth and sunshine of Miami, Florida. Over the next several years she would experience traveling all over the eastern United States to cities she had never been to before…..and loved it! For the rest of her life, she would have a passion for traveling to exciting destinations.

And then one fateful day, while on a date, she was introduced to “Don” who was a new pilot for Delta Air Lines. She thought he was “Crazy”….loud and boisterous. They enjoyed 58 years of married life together, full of adventure and excitement, eventually coming in for a landing in Houston. Eventually she and Don moved to Champions Golf Club where they built a house and began a whole new adventure. She made many life-long friends at Champions over the years with whom she enjoyed every minute, from dinner parties to bridge club to enjoying time with the antique club. While she may have moved far from Chicago, she still kept her family close in her heart and would spend countless vacations and holidays with them. The importance of family never left her side.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents John and Katrina Mlade and her brother John Mlade, and also by her loving husband Don Schwenneker.

She is survived by her brother Nick and his wife Lauren Mlade, and their three children Nicole, Lauren, and John along with great nieces and nephews. She is also left to be remembered by her son Jon Schwenneker.

The family would like to than Brookdale for their dedication to Virginia’s care. Services for Virginia will be conducted on May 13th, 2022 at 3pm in the Texas Liberty Mausoleum at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/donate.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.memorialoaksfunerals.com for the SCHWENNEKER family.

Obituary : Boyd Adam Badali, our favorite pilot, took to the skies on Feb. 15, 2022, for his forever flight after passing away peacefully at home in St. George Utah. Boyd was the son of Joseph Augustus and Emma May Welter Badali. He was born Oct. 29, 1965, in Branford, Connecticut, less than two blocks from the ocean. This is surely where he found his love for the water. At age 5, Boyd’s family moved to Utah.

To know Boyd was to love him instantly. He was the life of any party. His contagious laugh and outrageous stories kept everyone entertained for hours. He had a zest for life and truly lived every minute to the fullest. After graduating from Bonneville High School, Boyd attended Weber State University. It was there he joined the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and made some of his dearest, lifelong friends. He was an extremely proud father. He loved fiercely and was deeply dedicated to giving his all to the people in his life. And he gave the best hugs ever.

Boyd loved his country and served in the U.S. Air Force and the Utah Air National Guard for over 20 years. He ended his career as a pilot for Delta Airlines. He loved flying, and in total, logged over 10,000 hours in the sky. He traveled to countless countries throughout his career and had a talent for picking up accents, which he imitated frequently. In 2017, Boyd walked into one of Renata’s yoga classes and in true Boyd fashion, made a memorable first impression. He was instantly hooked and never missed a class.

After retiring to St. George, Boyd loved spending time outside enjoying the beauty of the red rock in Snow Canyon, bright blue sky and sunshine. He was always on the hunt to add to his shiny rock collection, and anyone who visited his home could clearly see he had an obsession. He was an avid swimmer and took every opportunity he could to put on his dive gear. He also made it a goal to get his Jeep as dirty as possible every time he took it out. He had an adventurous spirit, and although we wish he had more time with us, we are grateful for the precious memories we have.

Boyd is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his siblings Paul (Melody) Badali and Debra (Wayne) Wickizer. Survivors also include his loving wife Renata Ann Badali, daughters Ashley Badali, Rachel Badali, Sabrina Badali, Britney (Colby) Robinson, Kylie Smith, and Amanda Smith. He was adored by many nieces and nephews and four darling grandchildren who will forever love their “Papa Boyd.” He was a truly kind and remarkable man and will be deeply missed.

A celebration of Boyd’s life will be held Monday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., Saint George. Flowers can be sent to Spilsbury Mortuary. Military and civilian uniforms are welcomed. Military honors will be provided by Post 90 of the American Legion.

Arrangements are under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S Bluff Street, St. George, 435-673-2454. Family and friends are invited to sign Boyd’s online guest book.

Fort Worth, Texas - Albert Frederick Kaelin, Jr. was a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He passed away on November 23, 2021, after a brief illness at the age of 86.

Al was born on July 19, 1935, to Mabel and Albert Kaelin, Sr. and grew up with his sisters in Rockville Center, New York. He attended Fordham University and graduated with a BS in physics. From there, he went on to work as a systems engineer for American Bosch Arma Corporation for one year. In 1958, he entered the Air Force and went through flight training in Bainbridge, Georgia; Laredo, Texas; Phoenix, Arizona; and Las Vegas, Nevada. From 1960 to 1963, he was a TAC Fighter Pilot with the 10th TAC FTR Squadron, 50th TAC FTR Wing at Hahn, Germany. He held "Select Crew Status" and achieved "Top Gun" awards for both Wing and Squadron in 1962.

After he was discharged in July of 1963, Al joined Delta Air Lines. In his years as a pilot, he flew a number of planes including DC-6, DC-7, Convair 440, Convair 880, DC-9, Boeing 727 as well as MD 11. He achieved Captain status in 1969 and retired after 32 years with Delta in 1995. He and his beloved companion, Snoopy, flew all over the world and ended their career flying the MD 11 to the Orient. If you knew Captain Al, then you knew that Snoopy always flew with him!

Al married his first wife, Carol in 1960 and they had two daughters. After her death, he lived in Houston, Texas where he met and married his wife of 40 years, Jerria. In 1983, they moved to Fort Worth, Texas where they enjoyed a wonderful life together until his death. Al had many hobbies including traveling all over the world, skiing, tap dancing lessons and performances as well as cheering for his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. He played horn, published music and was a whiz on the computer editing photos and creating many things for his friends and family.

One of Al's favorite things was his affiliation with the Shriners. He was a life member of the Moslah Temple in Fort Worth as well as the El Mina Temple in Galveston, Texas where he was initiated on May 4,1985. He was a member of the Moslah Shrine Bedouin Band and served as co-chair of the band, horn player, instructor, and music publisher for their group. He was also a Master Mason with Lake Worth Lodge No. 1410 in Lake Worth, Texas. Not only were these people his friends, but he also considered them his family. Al and Jerria made life-long friendships throughout this organization and made many fond memories over the years. He always looked forward to his meetings, traveling, fundraisers, parties and competing with his Shriner and band friends.

Al was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Cromwell. He is survived by his wife, Jerria, his daughters Kelly and Kryss, his sister, Jeanne Barrett and his beloved dog, Kandi. He surely will be missed by all those who had the opportunity to know him.
