___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Virginia M. SCHWENNEKER, widow of DL Capt. Don Schwenneker

NOVEMBER 26, 1931 – APRIL 18, 2022

 Obituary : https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/houston-tx/virgina-schwenneker-10715161

Virginia Schwenneker passed away on Monday April 18th, 2022 at the age of 90 years. She was born on November 26, 1931, in Chicago Illinois to John and Katrina Mlade. She had two brothers, her older brother John and her younger brother Nick whom she both dearly loved. Family was always important to her and she would make it a point to enjoy those moments together. In her younger years she would spend time in school and then help out her parents in their restaurant named after her “Virginia’s Lunch”. She would comment and tell stories about the colorful people that she would see come and go over the years. She often talked about ice skating and snowball fights in the winter and enjoying a ride on her father’s motorcycle on warm summer evenings.

After graduating High School, she stayed in Chicago working in an office for about a year. One day her father who had been on an airplane flight back to Chicago suggested she apply for a stewardess position with several airlines. She took his advice and shortly thereafter found herself with a job at Eastern Airlines. She took off on a new adventure and traded the cold winters of Chicago for the warmth and sunshine of Miami, Florida. Over the next several years she would experience traveling all over the eastern United States to cities she had never been to before…..and loved it! For the rest of her life, she would have a passion for traveling to exciting destinations.

And then one fateful day, while on a date, she was introduced to “Don” who was a new pilot for Delta Air Lines. She thought he was “Crazy”….loud and boisterous. They enjoyed 58 years of married life together, full of adventure and excitement, eventually coming in for a landing in Houston. Eventually she and Don moved to Champions Golf Club where they built a house and began a whole new adventure. She made many life-long friends at Champions over the years with whom she enjoyed every minute, from dinner parties to bridge club to enjoying time with the antique club. While she may have moved far from Chicago, she still kept her family close in her heart and would spend countless vacations and holidays with them. The importance of family never left her side.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents John and Katrina Mlade and her brother John Mlade, and also by her loving husband Don Schwenneker.

She is survived by her brother Nick and his wife Lauren Mlade, and their three children Nicole, Lauren, and John along with great nieces and nephews. She is also left to be remembered by her son Jon Schwenneker.

The family would like to than Brookdale for their dedication to Virginia’s care. Services for Virginia will be conducted on May 13th, 2022 at 3pm in the Texas Liberty Mausoleum at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/donate.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.memorialoaksfunerals.com for the SCHWENNEKER family.
