IN THE CARE OF H.M. Patterson & Son-Arlington Chapel

Capt. Joseph G. Oliver Jr., age 88, passed away at his home in Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Joe was born on February 4, 1936 in Nashville, Tennessee and was the only child to Mary Cato Oliver and Joseph G. Oliver Sr. He is survived by his wife, two children, and two grandchildren: Gail Oliver, Joseph G. Oliver III (wife Nadine Oliver), Merrin Oliver Jeffries (husband Carson Jeffries), Shane Patrick Jeffries (4) and Josephine Olivia Jeffries (1).

After graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1954, Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he quickly rose to the ranks of Captain before joining Delta Airlines as a pilot in 1958. In his time flying with Delta, Joe served on the Delta Central Air Safety Committee and chaired the All-Weather Flying Committee. His work resulted in the development of a series of technical revisions and critiques of advanced aircraft instrumentation, cockpit displays, and automated landing systems, which led to substantially improved flight path information for pilots and earned him a highly esteemed safety award from The Airline Pilots Association. He retired as Captain from Delta in 1996. After retirement, Joe kept himself busy as a demonstration pilot for Pilatus Aircraft and later a real estate broker for Coldwell Banker.

Joe’s biggest passions were flying, his family, and sailboats. He met his wife, Gail, on a flight soon after she graduated from flight attendant school, and he never let her go. They enjoyed 56 years together and 50 years of marriage, traveled the world together, and raised their family in the home Joe designed and built in Sandy Springs, Georgia. They built and raced their sailboat, The Rebel, on Lake Lanier, and afterwards continued to charter sailboats in the Virgin Islands with family and friends. Joe was known for his unshakeable and warm demeanor, subtle and witty humor, and reliability. The Oliver house served as the center for all holidays and special occasions over the decades, and Joe took great pride and happiness from filling his house with good food and “fine people” (as he would say). His death is a profound loss felt by his family and friends. May he find blue skies and tailwinds on his final flight West.

A memorial of Joe’s life will be held at 3:30 pm on February 1 in the HM Patterson Arlington Chapel. Flowers will be accepted, or tribute gifts can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Lincoln Henry Weis, Sr. Obituary

Lincoln Henry "Link" Weis, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, in Fayetteville, Georgia, at the age of 83. Born on July 30, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Link lived a life full of adventure, love, and cherished memories.

Link proudly served in the United States Army, an experience that shaped his character and dedication, leading him to a fulfilling career as a pilot with Delta Air Lines. With every flight, he embodied the spirit of freedom and exploration. His passion for aviation was rivaled only by his love for the clear skies, which he often found mirrored on the lush fairways of his favorite golf courses.

A man of diverse interests, Link was never one to pass up a chance to spend quality time with his family, savoring every moment with his loved ones. Whether it was casting a fishing line into tranquil waters or lifting a perfectly chilled martini glass with a grin, he infused joy and warmth into every gathering. His legacy is built on the foundation of countless treasured moments with his devoted wife, Diane, and their children and grandchildren.

Link was preceded in death by his parents, Lincoln and Alma Weis, and his brother, Don Weis. While we mourn the loss of this remarkable man, we also celebrate the vibrant life he lived. Link Weis touched the lives around him with a gentle strength and kindness that will continue to inspire us all in the days to come. In our hearts, he soars on endless blue skies.

In lieu of formal services, the family requests that those who wish to honor Link's memory take a moment to lift a glass to the sunrise, hit a golf ball into the horizon, or simply share a story with a loved one. For Link, every day was an opportunity to make a memory, and his would be that we all do the same.

Kent Bonney Obituary

Kent L. Bonney of Chatham, Massachusetts, passed away on January 14, 2025, having lived his 84 years to the fullest. Born in Mount Kisco, New York in 1940 to Sherwood M. and Harriet (Brady) Bonney, he was raised in Scarsdale, New York, where he was classmates and then sweethearts with his future wife, Anne Garey. He graduated Mount Hermon High School and then attended Lehigh University. Around this time, he began visiting Anne in Chatham for summers, where he worked at Nickerson's Fish & Lobster on the pier and at Howard Johnson's in Orleans. Kent graduated from Lehigh in 1962 as a member of ROTC with a major in Finance. He soon joined the US Air Force as a pilot and married his beloved Anne in 1964. They moved to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, where he flew C130s and C141s to Europe, and then later in Vietnam. In 1969, he took a job as a pilot for Delta Airlines in Atlanta, GA where he worked for 32 years. He and Anne raised their family in north Atlanta: son, Curtis Warren, daughter, Laurel Anne, and son, John Louis. In 1978, he and Anne purchased a 2nd home in Chatham - a fixer with a tractor in the shed and a '51 Cadillac in the garage. He and his family spent summers on the Cape; when Kent retired from Delta in 2000, he and Anne moved there, full-time.

Kent loved being on the water. In retirement, he and Anne cruised Florida and the Bahamas over several years in his 42-foot trawler, Windsong. In Chatham, he fished for blues and bass at the south end of Monomoy, whenever the weather permitted, and even when it did not. He found peace and harmony in nature - whether walking the trails and beaches of Boca Grande, Florida and Cape Cod, digging for clams at low tide, or photographing pelicans at sunrise. He loved music and sang baritone in several choral groups both in Chatham and in Boca Grande, as well as the First Congregational Church choir in Chatham. He was an athlete - a runner for many years, and a long-time tennis regular at the Boca Grande Club and the Chatham Beach and Tennis Club. Kent was a lifelong volunteer, helping out with church and community functions in Atlanta, Boca Grande, and Chatham. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, hauled pumpkins for Halloween and boxed up Christmas decorations at the First Congregational Church. He chaired Chatham's first night celebration and later worked with the Chatham Democratic Committee.

Kent's warmth and enthusiasm lit up the room; he never met a stranger he didn't come to know. His curiosity and laughter were contagious; his love, generosity, and support for colleagues, friends and family, kids and (6) grandkids, were unbounded, a legacy for all those who knew him.

He is survived by his sister, Jean (Bonney) Smith, his beloved wife of 60 years, Anne (Garey) Bonney and their 3 children: Curtis W. Bonney, his wife, Sonnet Retman, and their 2 daughters, Ava and Sylvie; Laurel A. Bonney, her husband, Mark Semon, and their 2 children, James and Daphne, and John L. Bonney, his wife, Erica Bonney, and their 2 daughters, Lila and Cate.

A memorial service in celebration of Kent's life will be held at the First Congregational Church of Chatham on Feb 20th at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the First Congregational Church in Chatham, the Chatham Labyrinth, or the Chatham Harvesters Cooperative Food Pantry Fish Share.

Obituary of John Frances Bredt

Age 93 of Burnsville passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025.

Jack was born on March 1, 1931 in Minneapolis and grew up there, graduating from Southwest High School in 1949. That year he performed in the school play, participated in the "S" Club and played Baseball, Basketball and Football. He attended the U of M prior to joining the US Air Force. He was stationed in Keflavik, Iceland where he met and married his wife of 69 years, Svala (Dolly) Bredt. From Iceland, they moved to Dover, Delaware until his enlistment was complete, then settled in Minnesota.

Jack had many interests and before his children were born he was very involved in obedience trials with his springer spaniel, Duffer. Many awards were won for both obedience and show.

In 1957 Jack joined a small local airline and began his lifelong career flying passenger jets. He retired in 1991 after 33 years of service to North Central Airlines, Republic Airlines and finally, Northwest Airlines.

His heart though, was always at Big Sandy Lake, a property he purchased as a young man in the early 1950s. It was there that so many of our precious family memories were made. He taught Jeff and Sandy to fish, to waterski and to maneuver the 12-foot Alumacraft. The 2.5 horsepower motor mostly kept them out of trouble. In the winter there was ice skating, ice fishing and snowmobiling. Once the grandchildren were born the lodging improved with a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home. The granddaughters remember grandpa's famous buttermilk pancakes where they had an eating contest; Shelby won by eating 14 pancakes, a record that has yet to be broken. Perhaps the next generation?

Travel took Jack and Dolly to Iceland for regular trips to see family, London, an Alaskan cruise and many spring getaways to Phoenix, AZ. In retirement they made trips almost annually to Acapulco and Maui.

Alzheimer's took so much from him during the past decade. His car, his cabin, his home. Eventually he wound up in memory care at The Rivers in Burnsville. The loss of independence was the hardest to watch and accept. Frequently, he asked for his wallet, his checkbook and his car keys.

In the end, complications from Influenza A were what ultimately caused his death. He lived a long life full of travel, family and good memories. He was Catholic in his faith and received his last rites, (or anointing of the sick.) We trust he had a smooth transition to heaven to be reunited with family and friends who went before him. If you are so inclined, raise a toast to Jack; he did enjoy his brandy.

He is survived by wife Dolly, his step-brother John (Lori) Norgren, children, Sandra (Jeff) Larson, Jeffrey (Deanna) Bredt, grandchildren Kaylee (Adam) Stawikoski, Shelby (Blaine) Cooper and Madison (Grant) Bredt and 5 great-grandchildren, Carter, Maverick and Brady Borgerson and Carson and Kensley Cooper.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents Carl Bredt and Mildred Norgren and brother Karl Bredt.

Mass of Christian Burial 11:00am on Monday, January 27th

Mary, Mother of the Church, 3333 Cliff Road, Burnsville, MN 55337

Visitation 1 hour before Mass

Private interment at a later date.

IN THE CARE of  Family Funeral Care

Will Gummersall (Willard Per Gummersall), age 57, of Herriman, Utah.

He was born on March 25, 1967, in Preston, Idaho, a short distance from Grace, Idaho where he resided during his childhood. Will grew up on an idyllic farm with his loving parents and siblings where he learned to work hard, wrestle and play, and love God. He graduated from Grace High School, then attended Utah State University and served an LDS mission in Albuquerque New Mexico before joining the US Army National Guard. He married Dawn Misenhimer in 1994 and became an enthusiastic father to three kids. They later divorced. In 2018, he married Emily Porter and gained five step children whom he loved wholeheartedly.

In the National Guard, he discovered a lifelong talent and love for flying as a pilot; first in Apache helicopters and then C12 airplanes. He served on four tours of duty stationed in Kuwait, twice in Afghanistan, and then in Djibouti where he served as commander. After 32 years he left military service as a Chief Warrant Officer 5 and longtime instructor pilot and began working for Delta airlines. He quickly became a captain at Delta and worked in that role until his passing.

Will sincerely felt he had achieved his dreams having found a true partner and remarkable love in his wife, Emily. His happiest days were spent creating their dream home, building classic cars especially with help from his kids, and spending time together with her and their children and grandchildren. As a dad and stepdad, he was loyal and loud, full of fun and a deep well of encouragement. He could fix anything and was often found in the garage or around the house teaching his kids how to change the oil or fix a leak while demonstrating love and care through his willingness to serve.

Will’s charisma, character, boisterous joy, and devoted love for his family and friends are a few of the many reasons he will be deeply missed and often remembered.

Will is survived by wife Emily Porter Gummersall, children and step children: Cassidy Hansen (Matthew), Brendan Gummersall, Trevor Gummersall, Braden Christensen, McKenzie Christensen, Ellie Christensen, Trey Christensen, Ian Christensen. Grandchildren: Hazel and Anders Hansen.

Will is also survived by his siblings: Elliot Gummersall (Angie), Clay Gummersall (Debbie), Tamara Nielsen (Steve), Jeff Gummersall (Whitney), Amy Richards (Dave), and Holly Casebolt (Aaron) along with many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
