News has reached us that Dorothy Mae Raithel has passed on at the age of 88 years. Dorothy is the wife of early Bonanza/AirWest/Hughes/Republic pilot Captain Wilburn Julius ‘Bud’ Raithel. Having married on November 7, 1942, Dorothy and Bud recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Born December 2, 1920, Captain Raithel celebrated his 92nd birthday just prior to Dorothy’s passing.

Obituary:
Dorothy Mae Raithel, 88, a long-time resident of Prescott, died at her home on Tuesday, December 5, 2012, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Dorothy was born May 28, 1924, in San Antonio, TX, the daughter of Anton and Verna Tschirhart. She was united in marriage to W.J. “Bud” Raithel on November 7, 1942. They were married for 70 years.
Dorothy received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Arizona State University in 1967. She furthered her education and received her Master’s Degree, also from ASU.
Dorothy’s career as an elementary school teacher began at Apache Elementary in 1967. She transferred to Tonalea Elementary where she worked until her retirement.
She loved to sew, knit, crochet and read, and she enjoyed making wonderful food for her family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Bud; her children, Jack (Annette) Raithel of Collierville, TN, and Ruth Dassen of Mesa, AZ; her three granddaughters, Jennifer (James) Newman of Brooklyn, NY, Sarah Baer and Laura Baer, both of Mesa, AZ; her three great-grandchildren, Lyla Grace Newman, Michael Gavin McInturff, and Harvey Baer Jacobson; and her brother, Alton (Sharon) Tschirhart of Boerne, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents; three siblings, Bill Tschirhart, Lois Walt, and Evelyn Tschirhart; her son-in-law, Henricus Dassen; and her only grandson Adam Raithel.
