NWA Capt. Harold E. Thorson

Notification of the passing of Navy/WWII veteran and retired NWA pilot Captain Harold E. Thorson. Captain Thorson hired on with Northwest as a Transportation Agent 12-10-1951 and started his flying career with Northwest in 1952. Captain Thorson retired at the mandatory age 60 in 1983. Married in Seattle January 22, 1946, he was widowed in 2003. Captain Thorson was nearing his 89th birthday at the time of his passing December 10th.

Harold E. Thorson
December 21, 1923 ~ December 10, 2012

Harold was born in Crary, North Dakota. He served in the Navy as a forward air reconnaissance pilot in the South Pacific during World War II and continued to serve in the reserves through retirement. In 1952, he started as a pilot for Northwest Airlines where he flew 31 years finishing his career as a Boeing 747 Captain flying routes to Asia. He had an amazing positive attitude about life, and was incredibly organized and prepared for eternity. He was also conservative with this life, but generous with others. He did not leave any unfinished business behind and was able to pass in comfort and peace.

He has now joined with his wife Louise, who passed away in 2003. He is survived by his daughters Kathleen Poole, Suzanne Popa and her husband Jim, son Rick Thorson and wife Cindy, grandchildren Bradley and his wife Katherine, John and his wife Monica, Lauren and her husband Zane, Brian, Elizabeth and her husband Ben, Mari, and great grandchildren Matthew, Natalie, and Stellan . A celebration of his life is scheduled for Saturday, January 5th at 1 pm at the Elm Place Clubhouse, 1200 6th Place South, Edmonds, WA 98020.
