WWII veteran, NEA/DL Capt. John ‘Jack’
French
January 10, 1920 ~ June 17, 2013
Word has been received with the passing of WWII veteran, Delta
Golden Wings and Delta Pioneer member, retired NEA/DL Captain John E. ‘Jack’
French Sr., age 93. Captain French hired on with Northeast 06-11-1941 and
retired at the mandatory age 60 in January 1980, based DFW. To view/sign the

John E French, Sr. 93, formerly of Atkinson, NH. died
peacefully on June 17th, 2013 in Palermo, ME with his wife Elaine F French, son
Dennis and wife Suzanne by his side.
"Jack" was born on January 10th, 1920 in Arlington,
Massachusetts to the late James M. and Elizabeth French (formally Crooks). He
attended Wentworth Institute of Technology after high school. He was then
trained as a pilot for the Army Air Corps and served in WWII with many
decorations to his credit. His favorite plane was the B24 which saw him through
35 successful combat missions. He is probably most famous for his role in the
Kassel Mission and the lives he saved. Lieutenant Colonel John E French Sr.
retired in 1979 after 37 years of service. Jack also worked as a commercial
airline pilot for Northeast Airlines which became Delta Airlines. He retired in
December 1979 after 38 years in the sky.
Some of his favorite hobbies were woodworking, building model
cars & airplanes and watching automobile racing. Jack enjoyed boating,
gardening and traveling around the world with his wife Elaine, who he fondly
called "Lovey".
He is pre-deceased by his sister, "Betty" Lewis and brothers
Philip and Dick. Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Elaine F
French and 5 sons; John E French, Jr. of Pierre, SD; James R French and his wife
Janice, of Mason, NH; David R French and his wife Susan, of Grafton, MA; Dennis
J French and his wife Suzanne, of Candia, NH; Steven N French and his wife Karen
of Epping, NH. He also had 8 grandchildren; Donna Spencer & Jennifer Dixon;
Kenneth French; Matthew, Erin and Christopher French; Nicole & Brianna
French. He had one great-grandchild; Tyler Spencer.
A memorial will be held Saturday June 22, 2013 in Candia,
NH.
