Laurie Zonne Aswegan
Hi Phil,
Several days ago I got a call from Laurie Zonne Aswegan,
daughter of Emil Zonne. I don't know Laurie and don't know how she found me or
why she had my name, but Emil is dying of prostate cancer and Laurie thinks he
may have perhaps two more weeks in hospice before things end. I was sad to hear
the news but glad Laurie found me and let me know although I've had no contact
with Emil for probably 30 years or more. I did fly with him a thousand years
ago when I was a 727 S/O but don't think I ever flew with him as F/O and
certainly not when I was a Capt.
What Laurie would like to do is locate someone in the MN /
Twin Cities area who personally knows Emil and would be willing to say a few
words at his service when the time comes. Otherwise, she says, there will be
some clergyman who doesn't know her dad and the best he can do is deliver some
sort of canned eulogy…and it would mean a lot to Laurie if a friend of her dad's
could do that. I have no idea what sort of service is anticipated, whether it
will be a normal funeral and burial, a cremation with a later service, or what.
And, clearly, no one knows when it will actually
be.
I've just talked with Dino Oliva (his email keeps bouncing
although he swears it's doliva59@gmail.com) so I chatted
with him on the phone. He flew with Emil in the reserves (Emil is another
Marine) but hasn't had any contact with him in decades - - nor does he know of
anyone off hand who lives up in the MN area. It's not necessary that the person
have any particular connection with Emil other than that of being a personal
friend or acquaintance.
I'm wondering if you'd put out a blurb on the
RNPA hot line to canvas anyone who might live up 'nawth' and knows Emil,
please? I'm copying Laurie in on this so
you'll also have her email if there's a reason to contact her
directly.
Thanks for any help you can
provide.
Blue skies,
Lyle
