NEA/DL Capt. Alfred 'Fred' Lane

WWII veteran, B&M/NEA/DL Capt. Alfred ‘Fred’ Atterbury Lane
February 1, 1918 ~ August 24, 2013

   Notification of the passing of B&M/NEA/DL pilot and Delta Golden Wings member Captain Alfred ‘Fred’ Lane, age 95.  Captain Lane hired on with Boston & Maine 04-01-1939 and retired with Delta Air Lines at the mandatory age 60 in 1978, based MSY.   


I believe that Captain Lane had most recently resided at
2430 SW Bobalink Ct.,  Palm City, FL 34990-2651.

ALFRED A LANE 1918-2013

Alfred Atterbury Lane (Fred), 95, of Palm City Florida died peacefully at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart Florida on Saturday August 24, 2013. He was born to the late William and Josephine Lane, February 1, 1918 in South Orange New Jersey, last of five sons. Fred graduated from Kent School and received an Associate Degree from Stanford University. He was a member of the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a pilot for 38 years with Boston And Maine Airways, which became Northeast Airlines and later merged with Delta Airlines, where he was a Captain until his retirement in 1978. Fred was an active member of St Mary's Episcopal Church, worked as a volunteer at Martin Memorial Hospital, and supported the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch where he received many awards. He enjoyed sailing, fishing, and traveling in his motor home. He leaves Mippi Hermann; his daughter Margot Bordman of North Falmouth MA; son Winthrop W Lane and wife Jennifer of Wareham MA; and son Alfred A Lane Jr. and wife Sally of Palm City FL; seven Grand Children; ten Great Grand Children and two Great-Great Grand Children. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday September 14th at St Mary's Episcopal Church in Stuart Florida. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice 1201 SE Indian St, Stuart FL 34997 or St Mary's Episcopal Church 623 E Ocean Blvd Stuart FL 34994.
