DL Capt. William W. Kellner

Notification with the passing of retired DL Captain William Weitzel Kellner, age 74.  Captain Kellner was hired by Delta Air Lines 10-18-1965 and retired May 1997, based 031/ATL.

Retired MD11 Captain William  (Bill) Kellner, 74, passed away on October 3, 2013 after a battle with Alzheimer's disease.  He attended Bellarmine College in Louisville, Kentucky and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in United States Marine Corps upon graduation.  Bill attended the United States Naval Air  Station in Pensacola, Florida for primary flight training and then went to Beeville, Texas for Advanced Flight Training at the United Naval Auxiliary Air Station.  He was designated a Naval Aviator in October 1962.  Bill was then stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro (Santa Ana), California and he flew the F8U Crusader,  and C130 Hercules.  After his tour of duty with the Marines he was hired by Delta Air Lines in October 18, 1965.  During his 31 year career he flew out of the Atlanta base.  To celebrate Bill's life visitors will be received  Monday, October 7, 2013  at Winkenhoffer  Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 North Cobb Parkway, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00.  A Rosary will begin at 7:00.  The following morning a Memorial Mass will be held at at 10:30 at  Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church where Bill was a member.  The address is: 1618 Ben King Road, N.W., Kennesaw, Georgia 30144.  Bill's obituary will be in the Atlanta Journal and the Marietta Journal on Sunday.

KELLNER, William
William (Bill) Weitzel Kellner, 74, passed away October 3, 2013 after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. Bill was born in Louisville, Kentucky to loving parents, Dorothy Grewling and Frank Fehr Kellner. Bill attended Saint Xavier High School and Bellarmine College in Louisville. Upon graduation from Bellarmine College, he joined the United States Marine Corps as a second lieutenant. While in the Marines, Bill completed the Navy Air Training Command and Naval Fighter Pilot Command programs. After training, he was transferred to El Toro (Santa Ana), California where he became a Naval Aviator and was promoted to captain. Bill served his country proudly in the Marines for four years. On October 18, 1965, Bill was hired by Delta Airlines where he flew as a pilot for 31 years, retiring in 1997. While at Delta, he captained the 727, 737, 767 and MD11. In addition to flying, Bill was an entrepreneur. He founded Friendly Computers in Marietta, Georgia, the first Apple computer dealer in the State. Bill had many hobbies including tennis, scuba diving, snow skiing, water skiing and hunting. Bill leaves behind his loving wife of 26 years, Sandra Hollis Kellner and his Mother, Dorothy Grewling Kellner, four children: Jennifer Kellner Daugherty (Greg), William Weitzel Kellner, Jr. (Cheryl), Benjamin Joseph Kellner (Holly) and Patrick Alexander Kellner (Jennifer) two step-children: Jared Matthew Paul (Kelley) and Leigh Rudder Dobbs (Willis) and 6 grandchildren. Also, Bill is survived by 2 sisters, Barbara Kellner Temple (Nick) of Louisville, Jeannie Kellner Baird (Jim) all of Louisville and brother: Robert Joseph Kellner (Jeanne) of Seattle, Washington. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Frank Fehr Kellner. To celebrate Bill's life visitors will be received Monday October 7 at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 North Cobb Parkway, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with the Rosary starting at 7:00 p.m.. The following morning a Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 AM at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church where Bill was a member. The address is: 1618 Ben King Road, N.W., Kennesaw, Georgia 30144. The celebrant will be Father James L. Harrison, who was Bill's priest for many years and is a long-time family friend. The interment will be held at 2 PM at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia. Bill will be buried with full military honors.
