William Mullener: Newspaper Obituary


Lt. Col William "Bill" Richard Mullener USAFR, Ret., 64, of Plantersville, TX died Thursday, October 24, 2013. Bill was born January 17, 1949 in San Antonio, TX to William and Elaine Mullener. Bill lived a life built around serving others. After graduating from Texas A&M University, where he was a proud member of Squadron 3 and the Ross Volunteers, Bill entered active duty with the US Air Force. He left active duty to fly for Delta Airlines while maintaining his affiliation with the US Air Force Reserves. Bill flew a total of over 20,000 hours of flight time over Southeast Asia and the Persian Gulf region during his illustrious military career, earning multiple medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Aerial Achievement Medal, the Air Medal with 7 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. After retiring from Delta Airlines and the US Air Force, Bill completed a Masters in counseling. Using his life experiences, Bill devoted his work to serving others, especially military families and individuals dealing with addiction. Bill's commitment to his family is marked with years of involvement in Boy Scouts, camping and hunting trips, and tailgating at Aggie games. Bill was active in Grimes County serving as Emergency Response Coordinator. Bill is survived by his wife of 21 years Diane Mullener of Plantersville, TX and four children, Robert Scott Mullener (Tina), Rick Radliff (Meagan), Matt Radliff, and Rebecca Mullener Proske (David); eight grandchildren, Christopher, Maryn, Tyler, Nicholas, Emalyn, Austin, Johnathon, and Joshua; his mother Elaine Mullener of Austin, TX; sister Molly (Hugh) West; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues. Bill is preceded in death by his father, William P Mullener. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Klein Funeral Home, 14711 FM 1488, Magnolia, TX 77355. Family visitation will begin at 9 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675. You will be missed, Grandpa Bill.
