Please forgive late notice with the passing of DL Captain Joe M. Willis, age 72.  Captain Willis joined Delta Air Lines 01-06-1969 and retired in August 2001, based 031/ATL.  Services were held January 16th in Alabama.  Survived by his wife Barbara personal condolences may be sent to their residence at

Mr. Joe Morris Willis

Funeral services for Mr. Joe Morris Willis, 72, of Alexander City will be held Thursday, January 16, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Flint Hill United Methodist Church in Alexander City with Rev. John Hill, Rev. Mike Jackson and Pastor Mark Pettus officiating. Burial, with military rites, will follow in Clay County Memory Gardens.
The family will begin receiving guests at 1:00 pm at the church.
Mr. Willis passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
He was a native of Clay County, and had been a resident of Lake Martin in Alexander City for 31 years. He received his B.S. Degree from Auburn University. He was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the U. S. Air Force for 5 years. Prior to his retirement he was a pilot with Delta Airlines for 31 years.  He was a member of Willow Point Country Club, Lions Club, Alabama Seniors, and was a Methodist by faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Morris Willis and Addie Jo Young Willis.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara Y. Willis of Alexander City; three daughters, Scotland Welch (Thomas) of Dallas, TX, Misty Head (Dwayne) of Newnan, GA and Laurie Tisdale (Patrick) of Birmingham; one son, Jim Willis (Natalie) of San Antonio, TX; 8 grandchildren, Sara Dietrich, Tessa Willis, Willis Welch, Isabel Welch, Addison Tisdale, Gavin Tisdale, Amelia Head, and Sophia Head; and 1 great-granddaughter, Kaelyn Rawe.
Serving as pallbearers for Mr. Willis will be Jim Willis, Thomas Welch, Dwayne Head, Patrick Tisdale, Mike Pettus, Jimmy Ray, Larry Boddie, and Frank Dabbs.
Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Crunk, Don Loomis, Dr. Dan Harden, Roger Willis, Richard Yonge, and Laurie W. Yonge, Jr.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to Children’s Harbor, Flint Hill United Methodist Church, American Heart Association, or your favorite church or charity.
Clay County Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
