December 20, 1961 ~ July 24, 2014 

Notification with the passing of Mesaba/NWA/DL pilot F/O Matthew Gerard Van Ort, age 52.    I don’t have any other information other than the obituary notice.  It appears that friends and family had been following his caringbridge website for some time prior to his passing   http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/matthewvanort

Obituary .....................
Matthew VAN ORT
Passed away July 24, 2014 Surrounded by loved ones Age 52, of Woodbury. Survived by loving wife, Holly of 21 years; children, Benjamin (21), Katelyn (19) and David (14); mother, Margaret; siblings, Michael (Jeannie), Maureen (Bruce) Hatteberg, Mark, Margaret (Tom) Thron, Michelle (Tom) Ray, Maria and Mary Kollander; 17 nieces and nephews and 12 great-nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by father, William. Matthew served 26 years for the Army National Guard, and retired in 2011 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He spent 8 years as a pilot for Mesaba Airlines and 15 years as a pilot at Northwest/Delta Airlines. He loved riding his motorcycles, working on his vintage cars, spending time with his family and generally loving life. We will miss his spirit that he generously shared with us here on earth. We know he has moved on to a far better place. Special thanks to the staff at U of M BMT Clinic and Dr. Bachanova for their loving care. Memorials are preferred to Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Services are pending.
