Unknown has left a new comment on your post "WA/DL Capt. Kurt D. Lundblad":

My name is John Lundblad. I am not sure if this post will be read but I stumbled upon this website and I felt the need to share. I am Kurt Lundblad's first son as he has three. I have had a difficult relationship with my father along with my brother David Lundblad and my sister Dana Lundblad. The three of us became aware of our father's condition at the end of June. My heart sunk. We were invited to visit him before the end. I had the fortune of two visits, both unforgettable. I united my ten year old son Levi Lundblad with his grandfather. They had never met. We laughed, cried, remembered, and dreamed those three days. The second visit was marked with the union of my bother, sister, and myself. We had a short closing where we had the opportunity to come clean together.

I miss my father.

Love John

Kurt was a native of the San Francisco Bay Area. He was a graduate of the University of Colorado and received his commission to Ensign through the Aviation Officer Candidate Program in April 1966. His first assignment was as an attack pilot flying the A-7 Corsair II from the USS ENTERPRISE as a part of Attack Squadron 146. During this cruise he flew 52 combat missions in Vietnam. He rose to the rank of Captain in his military career. At the end of his active duty he flew first for Western Airlines then Delta Airlines until his retirement. He and his wife, Anne, have been members of St. Mark's church for 7 years.
When asked how he wanted to be remembered he replied,
"I was a peacemaker, I always tried to do the right thing. I loved and was loved in return."
Kurt's memorial service will be this Thursday, August 7th at 11:00am. It will be held in the small chapel at St. Mark's Catholic Church (2727 W. Tangerine Rd., Oro Valley, AZ 85737)
The Lundblad family wishes to thank everyone for the show of love, support and kindness received.
Thank you,

Sadly I learned of Kurt's finally "Flight West" yesterday around 11AM.  He was at his home in Tucson and died of an aggressive stomach cancer.   Two weeks ago Kurt elected hospice over chemo which had a questionable outcome.  Final arrangements are pending but I will post same along with his O.B. when I learn of them.

I'm sorry to report that we have lost another good friend and colleague. Kurt Lundblad made his final flight west on July 31. He was at home in Tucson and his wife, Anne, and son, Thomas, were with him. He died after a brief illness of abdominal cancer that was diagnosed only very recently.
He told me a couple of days ago that the emails and calls he received during his illness from his fellow pilots meant a great deal to him.
Service arrangements are pending.

He will be missed.
Best regards,
Kirk Boman

A good friend of mine told you of my health problem; I am overwhelmed by the good nature of our brothers and sisters.  My excuse is that I am not collected enough at this time to respond to all of these great people and I would appreciate it if you could pass this along for me.  I am not suffering at this time and I never quit.  The encouragement that I have received from all of this correspondence has meant a lot to me and helped me in my struggle.
Thank you for all that you do,
Kurt Lundblad

Many of you asked about Kurt's background at WAL so Greg Childs sent this.
..........Kurt Lundblad flew out of SFO, SLC and was a Check Airman on the 757 in CVG.  He was hired about 1970 or so.  The only pic I have of him includes me.  Perhaps you can crop it somehow.  (Navy Pilot)
Of course I will forward an update when he takes his last flight west.

Greg,
Can you tell me when he was hired and which base(s) he flew out of? It would be great if I had a picture of him.

  2. My name is Susana Gutierrez and Kurt was married to my mother from the mid 1970's to the end of 1980's. During this time, I got to know his family well. I am sad to hear of his passing. I am also sad to see that his three children, John, David and Dana, are not mentioned above in his obituary. Kurt adored his kids. I'm glad that John, David, Dana and Levi, were able to see him before the end.
