Note:  obituary indicates Mr. Ballard was a pilot and retired with Northwest Airlines but I was unable to verify.

Mr. Richard Ballard Sr. (Dick) of Barnesville, Georgia | 1932 - 2014 | Obituary

   Mr. Richard Ballard, Sr., (Dick) 82, of Barnesville, passed away Monday, September 29, 2014 at the Monroe County Hospital in Forsyth. He was born January 15, 1932 in Laurens County, Georgia, son of the late Arthur and Gladys Herndon Ballard. Mr. Ballard began his passion for flying as a crop duster before serving in the U.S. Air Force. He retired as an airline pilot for Northwest Airlines and was a member of Ramah Primitive Baptist Church.  Mr. Ballard loved spending time with his family, boating and camping.
 
 
     He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Grace Ballard; three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Arthur Jinks of Jonesboro, Vicky and Bruce Gant of Titusville, FL, Rhonda and Harry Hargens of Hampton; son, Richard Ballard, Jr. (Rick) of Hampton; six grandchildren, Erin Jinks, Whitney Jinks, Amanda Biggs, Christopher Hargens, Linda Keating and Patrick Hargens; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Faye Biskup of Highland Falls, NY; sister and brother-in-law, Arthine and Herman Hudson of Dublin GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Juanita Brown.
 
 
     Funeral services will be at 11:00 Friday at Ramah Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Kurt Bacon officiating. The interment will be at Ramah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at their home and receive friends at Breedlove Memorial Chapel Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00.
