___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Obituary ...................
Louis Nolan Smith, 90, passed on 10-12-14. Preceded in death by Jane Hagen his sister and Belle Smith Gardner his mother. His wife of 56 years Latrelle and their two children Belinda, Skipper and granddaughter Ashley survive him. Louis was a decorated WWII veteran receiving a purple heart after being shot down over enemy territory and taken prisoner for 9 months before escaping and making his way back. After returning home he became a pilot with Delta Airlines where he met his wife and love of his life. This love along with his love for flying continued from being a Captain of an L1011 jumbo jet to RC planes which he flew with his son and son-in-law David Peeks. He also loved fishing and diving in the Keys as well as snow skiing in Colorado. He was an amazingly strong and devoted man that will be missed by many… since Capt. L.N. Smith is flying high in a better place!
