CAVERLY, III, Eugene
Eugene "Gene" S. Caverly, III, 85 of Alpharetta went to be with his Lord on Friday, the 1st of May 2015. Gene was a graduate of Boys High and Emory University where he was a member of the KA Fraternity. Gene was a Veteran and Pilot of the U. S. Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. He flew jets off of the USS Coral Sea and the USS Bennington before retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. After serving his country he flew for Delta Airlines retiring in 1989 at the age of 60. Gene was a member of Alpharetta First United Methodist Church and The Cherokee Town and Country Club where he loved playing golf with "The Big Table". Surviving are his, wife of 57 years, Ann Henry Caverly; son, Eugene "Chip" Caverly, IV of Wilmington, DE; daughters, Caren L. Caverly of Alpharetta, Cathy Caverly Walker and her husband Mike Walker of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Whitney Walker Napier and her husband Jeremiah Napier, Wesley Walker, Hannah Walker Tanner and her husband Mason Tanner, Hayden Caverly Walker, Susanna Marie Walker, Claire Marie Caverly, and Andrew John Caverly; great granddaughter, Mia Lane Tanner; sister, Phyllis Caverly Long of Miami, FL; and special care giver, Liz Lydiatt. A celebration of Gene's life will be conducted on Friday, the 8th of May at 12:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Alpharetta with a reception and time of fellowship following. Prior to the memorial service the family will gather at Arlington Memorial Park for private entombment services with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Alpharetta First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 69 North Main Street, Alpharetta, GA 30009. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family Thursday evening from six until eight o'clock at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
