Notification with the passing of retired Northwest pilot
Captain J. William ‘Bill’ Himmelreich, age 87. Although the obituary below
indicates Northwest Airlines, I believe Captain Himmelreich actually began his
commercial flying career with Southern Airways, made the merger with Republic
and retired with Republic Airlines in 1986. He is survived by his wife Marian

Obituary.............................J. William Himmelreich
of Germantown, TN
J. William (Bill) Himmelreich passed away on February 11,
2017, in Germantown. He was born on October 11, 1929, in Reading, Pennsylvania
to Jesse Lachman Himmelreich and Eva Sattizahn Himmelreich. He is survived by
his wife, Marian Junkermann Himmelreich, his children and their spouses (David
and Stella Himmelreich, Eric and Denise Himmelreich, Lynn Gillcrist, and Eva and
Carlo Pirani), 12 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Bill graduated
from the Ohio State University with a Master's Degree in Philosophy, served as a
Major in the United States Air Force, and worked as a commercial airline pilot
for over 25 years before retiring from Northwest Airlines in 1986. Bill served
as President of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Memphis. Bill was an
avid classical music collector, and supported the arts, including the IRIS
Orchestra of Germantown. He donated his body to the University of Tennessee
College of Medicine. A visitation in celebration of Bill's life will be held on
March 25, 2017, from 10:00 until noon, in the Green Room at GPAC, 1801 Exeter
Road, in Germantown. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your
choice.
