DL Donald Larry Hansen

Military veteran, DL Donald Larry Hansen
September 23, 1937 ~ January 30, 2019 
 
Notification with the passing of retired Delta pilot Captain Donald Larry Hansen, age 81.  Captain Hansen joined Delta Air Lines 09-13-1965 and retired in May 1997, based 031/ATL, Line Ck. Airman.  He is survived by his wife Karen, plus children and grandchildren.

Obituary....................
Donald Larry Hansen, 81, of Salem, South Carolina and formerly of Carteret County, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at his home.
 
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Atlantic United Methodist Church in Atlantic, NC, officiated by Rev. Jack Colenda and Rev. Paul Harris.
 
Larry was born in Atlantic, Iowa but grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  He attended Colorado State University then joined the United States Marine Corps, first serving as a rifleman and a radio operator.  He was then selected for the aviation program where he earned his Naval Aviator Wings and a commission as a Second Lieutenant.  He flew the F-8 Crusader and the KC-130. 
 
Larry left the Marine Corps in 1965 to pursue a rewarding career as a pilot for Delta Air Lines.  He retired after 32 years as an International Captain on the L-1011 Tristar Jetliner.  In retirement, he enjoyed traveling in his motorhome with friends and visiting family.
 
His book, True Lies and Real Fiction, is an account of his memorable life experiences.
 
Larry is survived by his wife, Karen Hansen; sons, Kevin Hansen and his wife Jennifer, Chris Hansen and his wife Laura and John Hansen; brother, Bill Hansen and wife Pat; grandchildren, Eva Rose, Kevin, Smith, Polly, Eric and Will; and step-grandson, Jacob.
 
Family will receive friends following the service on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Atlantic United Methodist Church.
 
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Atlantic United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 145, Atlantic, NC 28511.
