Obituary : Port Royal, S.C. - David Guy Begin, 63, passed
away July 18, 2021, at his home in Port Royal, S.C., surrounded by his
immediate family. David was born March 2, 1958, in New London.
He grew up in Niantic, and graduated from East Lyme High
School in 1976. David was a talented trumpet and flugelhorn player. He played
for pleasure and also with the high school marching band and the Dick Pillar
Band. He enjoyed golfing and played many courses around the world.
David attended UCONN and graduated in 1980, from the ROTC
program, and became a pilot in the United States Air Force. He married his high
school sweetheart Anne in June of 1981, and then began his military career
flying A-10s. After retiring from the Air Force as captain, David then became a
captain for Northwest Airlines. Following his career with Northwest (now
Delta), David worked as an administrator for the International Federation of
Airline Pilots in Montreal, Canada. Following this, David traded flying for
sailing. Once certified with his captain's license, he, Anne and their beloved
dog, Luna, set sail throughout the Caribbean aboard their 44-foot catamaran,
"The Huntress." They met many interesting people during this adventure
and made a great friends along the way. After a few years of living on the
water, David and Anne decided to head for shore, eventually settling in Port
Royal, S.C.
Although David's life was cut short, he lived his life
fearlessly, with many exciting adventures, and always looking for challenges
along the way. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father with a
compassionate, caring and gentle soul. In his final days, David said,
"When you think of me, just smile."
In addition to his wife Anne, David is survived by his two
sons, Zachery and Colter Begin (Mei); his mother Barbara Begin; brother Paul
Begin (Gigi); and his sisters, Katherine Fontaine (Ken) and Kristin Teague;
mother-in-law Theresa Czaplicki; and brothers-in-law, Romuald (Lindsey) and
Paul (Caroline). David also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased
by his father Guy Begin; and father-in-law Romuald Czaplicki.
Upon David's request, there will be no services. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made in David's name to the American Cancer Society
