___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Obituary : Robert Warren Martin, San Diego, CA

Commander Robert Warren Martin, 66, passed away unexpectedly at home on August 6, 2020. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by his family and friends. Robert (Bob) was a decorated veteran who served in the United States Navy during the 1980s and spent a number of years in the reserves.

Bob was born on February 5, 1954, in Hollywood, CA to his parents Robert & Tomi Martin. Bob graduated from Granite Hills High School in 1972, received an Associate's degree from Grossmont College, and continued on to study at San Diego State University and National University, earning a Bachelor's in Business Administration in 1978.

Bob enlisted in the US Navy and became an expert pilot; stationed at multiple locations around the globe including Texas, Minnesota, Hawaii, Japan, and the Philippines. Bob famously flew a rescue mission in Guam, flying through an erupting volcano to save a group of people trapped in their village.

After completing his service with the Navy, Bob became a commercial pilot with Northwest Airlines and later taught machining, metal fabrication, and welding with the Grossmont Union High School District.

Bob's closest family and friends often considered him a genius, which was evident considering his many hobbies that included but were not limited to: making custom jewelry, building/flying drones and model airplanes, building computers, collecting and playing guitars, and working on cars. Bob also loved the outdoors - going to the beach for bonfires and mountain biking.

He is survived by his only child, Justin Tuazon-Martin, and his sister, Diana Gail Morton.

A memorial burial service will be held at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, CA on February 4, 2022, at 10 AM with a Celebration of Life Reception to follow. To RSVP to attend in person and/or if you have any photos of Bob to share with the family, please email: RobertW MartinMemorial22 @gmail.com
