___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Portsmouth, NH - Lieutenant Commander James F Berg US Navy retired, 54, husband of Jennifer G. Sanchez Berg of Portsmouth, New Hampshire passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

Jim was born in Brunswick, Maine to retired captain Robert P. Berg Sr. and the late Charlene J. Sweeney Berg. After graduating Brunswick high school, he followed in his father's footsteps and attended the United States Naval Academy. It was at the Academy that he majored in Mathematics, made lifelong friends and developed a love for aviation. He continued in his father's footsteps and flew P-3s for the Navy. Jim was an exceptional officer and toward the end of his career was instructing and VP 30 in Jacksonville Florida. With a heavy heart he left the Navy for a career with Delta Airlines and for over 25 years his job allowed him to travel around the world and have so many rich experiences in other countries but the one destination he loved the most was Halls lake Vermont. He spent every summer of his life from childhood to adulthood surrounded by family and friends whom he loved so deeply.

Jim lit up a room when you were with him. He lived to make others laugh and feel accepted. He was there when anyone needed a hand no matter what it was, what was his was yours. He was one of the most hard working and generous people in the world. He was a dedicated family man not just to his wife and three sons who were his pride and joy but to all in his family. He loved unconditionally. He touched the lives of so many. The world was a better place with Jim in it.

He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Sanchez Berg, his three sons, Jake, Peter and Michael, his father, Robert P. Berg Sr, his siblings, Jacqueline Berg, Tamra Bevilacqua, Robert Berg and their spouses and his nieces and nephews.

There will be two Celebration of Jim’s Life, one to be held at Halls Lake, Newbury, Vermont and one to be held in Cumming, Georgia (Location to be determined) which will be announced on this website, at a later date.

  1. I flew with Jim a few times. Just a great guy, sharp as a tack and a fellow I aspire to be like.
Sorry to hear, way too young
