Retired Northwest Airlines pilot Captain David Ronald Olive, age 84, of Newnan, Georgia, passed away on Monday, March 17th.  David joined Northwest Airlines 07-08-1968 and retired in 2000.  He is survived by his wife Charlene, and by his grandchildren along with many more extended family members and friends.

David Olive Obituary

David Ronald Olive, 84, of Newnan, Georgia, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025. David was born on August 10, 1940, in Sheffield, Alabama, to Shelby L. Olive and Mary Pauline Olive of Florence, Alabama. He attended Coffee High School in Florence, Alabama, and graduated in 1958. He married his high school sweetheart, Charlene Cutshall Olive, in 1961. He attended the University of Alabama and graduated in 1963 with a degree in Mathematics.

At graduation, he was commissioned in the United States Air Force. He attended Air Force pilot training at Craig Air Force Base in Selma, Alabama, where he became an instructor pilot in the T-33 and T-38 Aircraft. In 1968, he joined Northwest Airlines and Flew the Boeing 707,727,757,747 and the Douglas DC-10 Aircraft. He retired as a Captain on the 757 Aircraft in 2000 after logging over 20,000 hours of flight time.

David was a 40-year member of Central Baptist Church in Newnan and a devoted M.A.M. Sunday School Class member.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Charlene; his daughter-in-law, Sharon Leigh Olive of Minneapolis, MN; granddaughters, Kirby Grace Breeding, Shelby Leigh Olive, and Baily Hope Olive; his brother, John P. Olive (Cathy) of Foley, Alabama; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, S.L. and Pauline Olive, and his son, Michael J. Olive. David left a legacy of courage, dedication, hard work, and devotion to faith and family. We will dearly miss our husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, in Newnan. A graveside service will immediately follow visitation at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.
